I’ve done it - Christmas cake - anyone else?

A while ago I asked for help with Christmas cake decoration. I can make a decent cake if I say so myself but decorating filled me with fear. A lot of you were helpful. In particular HoneyDragon I think - apologies if wrong.
Anyway I finished today and thought I would share - please remember I am much a novice!

Anyone care to share their cake?

Ooh snowy peaks and penguins, nice! I've not made a Christmas cake before, but we're having a bit of a family bake-off this year so I've given it a go. Used Delia's Creole Christmas cake as a basis for the recipe, just adapted slightly. Been carefully feeding over the past two months or so. Cheated and used ready rolled icing, and acquired some classic plastic tat from fleabay to go on top!

Oh that is lovely! I thought snow peaks was safer as the marzipan layer wasn’t very smooth.

How cool are these!

I thought this thread was gonna be about already eating the Christmas cake...

givemushypeasachance · 20/12/2017 13:49

Love the negative effect Christmas pudding! And those stars, white on white very minimalist but pretty, love seeing the different designs people have experimented with!

I wish I could eat the cake already - it's a bit nerve wracking having invested so much time into this cake but you can't taste it and see how it is until the Big Day itself...

Bearsinmotion · 20/12/2017 13:55

What’s the best way to get that snowy peak effect?

givemushypeasachance · 20/12/2017 14:26

It's royal icing isn't it - I'd imagine Queen Delia should be quite reliable... link

HoneyDragon · 23/12/2017 20:10

MrsPear that is amazing. Utterly charming. You clearly have a secret talent.Xmas Smile

That's lovely! I marzipaned mine today so me and the kids will ice it tomorrow. I love royal icing so snowy peaks for us too!

clarrylove · 23/12/2017 20:15

Here's mine. Very basic but my first ever cake and, most importantly, it tastes delicious!!

I haven’t iced mine yet. Will have to do the marzipan and the royal icing tomorrow. I always go for the snowy peak effect! Can’t do smooth fondant.

Snowy peaks are royal icing - 500g icing sugar, 2 egg whites and a couple of table spoons of lemon juice. I don't think it really needs the glycerine.

HoneyDragon · 23/12/2017 20:39

I never use glycerine. Nigel Slater and his merry band of Kilmer jars doesn’t and if it’s good enough for him, it is me.

Christmasaurus · 23/12/2017 20:43

Here is mine - I just iced it today!
