A metronome? Or do electric ones have them built in these days?

An e gift certificate for downloading music from sites like music notes.com?

A book of easy to learn tunes and beginner tips?

Hanon - virtuoso pianist. He will use it for years (if learning classical)

“A dozen a day” books 1 and 2

I can still sing most of those bloody things...

Most music shops have loads of music themed gifts. Piano keyboard tie any good Wink

'Piano Time' Easy Classics might be good - I think there is a PT easy classics no. 2 too - familiar tunes, easy arrangements, nice big print! Have a look on Amazon.
There is also 100 Easy Classics which I really liked, but those are mostly quite a bit harder - I had been back at the piano for a while by then.

My group piano teacher uses the Piano Time Classics books with her beginner/near beginner classes.
I don't know what else he's using, but when I went back to the piano after so many years - I'd only ever passed grade 2, so more or less had to start again from scratch - I found the Carol Barratt Classical Piano course for adults very good.

I dare say there are popular/jazz equivalents if he's more into those. You will find masses on Amazon!

Just to add, the more music to try the better - helps such a lot with getting to recognise the notes. My sight reading was hopeless when I went back to it - piano tuner told me to just get loads of music and play it without worrying about getting it perfect - instead of the same few pieces over and over.

Thank you one and all!
