Book suggestion for 12 YO girl who has read HP many times. She loves to read.

OP posts:

A Wizard of Earthsea
The Dark is Rising
Edge Chronicles
Narnia

If she hasn't already read them. Come on over to Children's Books for lots more suggestions!

WeirdCatLady · 19/12/2017 13:09

Does she have all the accompanying hp books? Fantastic beasts, quidditch through the ages, tales of beedle the bard?

How about the lemony snicket, series of unfortunate events series? Or Percy Jackson?

Scruffette · 19/12/2017 13:12

Inkheart trilogy

SatsukiKusakabe · 19/12/2017 13:16

Phillip Pullman Northern Lights Trilogy

There is a new illustrated edition of the fantastic beasts book that was released recently- I’ve bought it for my sister and it’s beautiful.

Otherwise I would definitely second the recommendation above for His Dark Materials.

Tamora Pierce - excellent fantasy books with really kick-ass female heroes. Start off with the Song of the Lioness quartet.

Dark is Rising quartet is also brilliant!

She might enjoy Terry Pratchett though don't know if some of them might be a bit old for her? But I think I started at around that age!

mareemallory · 19/12/2017 13:23

Anything by Diana Wynne Jones. The Chrestomanci books are a good place to start, or Howl's Moving Castle.

BertieBotts · 19/12/2017 13:27

Northern Lights for sure - I read it at that age. Looks dull but is my fave series ever. Just comes in slightly over HP which is a big ask!

BarbieBrightSide · 19/12/2017 14:00

DS and I liked that Inkheart series and the Secret Country trilogy. I havent read Harry Potter though, or seen the films, so cam just going by what he thought.

I took him to the studio tour and that was great, if you haven't been I'd recommend it.

Thank you so much. I got Northern Lights. Gosh it was nice to browse Cambridge Heffers - must take the afternoon off more often!

FordPrefect42 · 19/12/2017 19:04

Please tell me I'm not the only one who opened this thinking the OP's daughter was into Hewlett Packard! 😂 I was going to suggest a laptop! On a serious note if she is into Harry Potter, I recommend His Dark Materials (as a few others have suggested) and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. :)

She is my niece. I have 2 sons, and found as they got older it was hard to think of books to suggest for them as I was reading quite different things at their age. My niece also prefers different genres to me so it’s more challenging.
