Fun things to do during Christmas dinner

Obviously we'll have crackers so there'll be the Reading Of The Jokes and I'm going to get a scratch card for everyone (fingers crossed!) but would like to do a few other things to make it fun. There'll be 5 adults, 2 children and a baby. One of the adults might be feeling a bit down about something, hence I'd like to keep things light and have some fun that we can all enjoy. Any ideas much appreciated.

We usually chat whilst eating but after dinner play games

This year dd has downloaded an app

You have to put the phone on your forehead and everyone else does the actions and you guess the word on the phone

The one that guesses the most wins

Good fun

macnab · 18/12/2017 14:00

Oh that sounds good! Would you mind telling me the name of the App please?

They have crackers in John Lewis that have one xylophone note in each one and a conductor stick so you can be directed to play on time and do Xmas tunes... I didn’t buy them because they were a bit ££ but I thought it sounded fun.... was considering popping back to see if they get any left that go down in the reductions 😁

We had the John Lewis xylophone crackers last year, never laughed so much in my life.

We found a version of this in Peacocks and I’m getting everyone to play it.

I buy a big bag of pom-poms pets. Then we have a competion for who has made the best one. There is always a faff about who is sitting where, and last minutes wees. So I make everyone take their places and make them before the meal is served. There is a strict 20 minutes deadline, it also stops guest trying to come into the kitchen to help .

We also do a famous name on a post it. The person has the name on their forehead and asks questions round the table to try to identify it. For the children, the adults give clues rather than children ask questions.

Last year we got crackers with racing santas from sainsburys (board and tokens and wind up santas) and I have kept the game for this year. I have also just bought a pass the parcel penguin from asda, it has gifts in it and forfeit game in it.

MinkowskisButterfly · 18/12/2017 17:57

*meant to say they have those racing santas in again this year. I think they were about £6 and the penguin was £6 as well.

We have the cards that Zeta linked.

I like the idea of scratch cards! I've never had one before.

We did indoor fireworks one year.

TeeBee · 18/12/2017 19:05

I'm doing the xylophone crackers and also bubbles that you pour your drinks into and make flavoured, edible bubbles.

Some lovely ideas everyone, thankyou Xmas Smile

The xylophone crackers are reduced from 22 to 17.50

lovelyjubilly · 18/12/2017 20:10

The app sounds like 'Heads Up'

ivykaty44 · 19/12/2017 11:13

Yes heads up - sorry didn’t know the name

macnab · 19/12/2017 12:04

Perfect, thanks

We usually have parlor games specially when my niece and nephews are all present. It's always a happy day specially when my sister would pull joke gifts but later on would surprise us with our wish lists.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/12/2017 12:12

Guess Who is a goid/easy one.

purpleprincess24 · 19/12/2017 13:51

One year we printed some menus for the table

Smoked salmon ... if Grandpa hasn’t already scoffed it

The most amazing, bronze, platinum, hand fed, daily massaged, ridiculously expensive turkey (the butcher saw Mr princess coming!)

You get the idea

I like some of the other suggestions though.
