Anyone else feeling overwhelmed?

I think it's pms more than anything. Most months I have a massive energy slump and I just take things down a notch and let stuff slide a bit, but I can't this time because we're hosting.
I'm not over-stretching myself by anyone's standards but There's. Still. So. Much. To. Do.
Little normal things like cleaning the bathrooms and changing the sheets feel like running marathons at the moment.
I just want to climb into bed, pull the duvet over my head and wait for it all to be over.

Feeling very overwhelmed! Too much to do, so I do nothing, well until I stop stressing and write a to do list! Also hormonal but to be fair I always get like this every Christmas and don't relax until sat down eating Xmas dinner. You said we are hosting, so if you've got an other half maybe they can help,

kath6144 · 17/12/2017 16:49

Yep, me too.

Just coming out of a 2 week illness, cold that went to my chest, antibiotics that made me feel sick, bad migraine. Yesterday was first full day up and outside in almost 2 weeks. Today I have a dull ache across my chest. Wondering if I'll be back at Drs on Monday or Tuesday.

Feel exhausted and depressed that we have not done anything Christmassy eg Christmas markets, and had to cancel some much anticipated stuff last weekend as was so ill.

Normally work Tues-Thurs. Going in tomorrow for some training, then finish Tues lunch as have a day and a half leave to take. Cannot wait for Tuesday lunchtime to come!!!

Managed to change our bedding today, but even with DH help it felt like a marathon! We hosting PIL but they understanding and helpful, DH does lots and DS now home from uni so can run around doing chores, but even so, I would quite happily cancel Christmas this year.

Fortunately kids are 17 & 20 and whilst they still have teenage moments, they are helpful when asked and easy to buy for now older (will send me links or such). I have made it clear that without help this week it wont happen!!! Just praying everyone else stays well, Dd has a habit of being ill at this time of year and both her and Dh were ill last Christmas.

Stay strong and remember it doesnt have to be perfect and you don't have to do it all. Get others to help!!

Sometimes the delegating is even more exhausting.
DH is great at helping out but tends to either not see the point (of clean sheets in the guest room), or phones me 14 times on a trip for groceries until I have to change my ring tone because it's acquired a Pavlovian anxiety-trigger, or helps like a head surgeon (pass me the -, where's the -).
Writing lists sounds good. I can almost believe I'm actually going to do it once it's written down Grin

Yes I feel the same! Normally pretty organised with Christmas but this year just seems like a big uphill slog. I haven't finished shopping, I haven't wrapped anything and I'm just plotting along and will be when it's all finished. I was thinking this time in 2 weeks it will be New Year's Eve and all the drudgery of Christmas will be over and we can start a new year!

Cagliostro · 17/12/2017 17:36

I am a bit this year. I love Christmas and spend ages planning presents etc. But I am postnatal and knackered! Baby will be 2 months but older ones are 10 and 8 so determined not to spoil the magic.

NoMudNoLotus · 17/12/2017 17:37

@Annwithnoe i have quite literally done that today.

I just want to sit and cry with exhaustion and stress.

PumpkinPie2016 · 17/12/2017 17:58

Me! I am a teacher with a responsibility and I am working until Fri. Thing is, while some colleagues are winding down, I still have a lot to do so need to do it before I finish so it isn't hanging over me. So work is stressful.

Then Christmas preparations still need finishing and we are hosting so need to get the house ready.

I'm exhausted and want to sleep for a week!

Spudlet · 17/12/2017 18:04

I am today. DH has been ill with a stomach bug and now I think I am getting it. Am in bed with a roiling stomach and no appetite or energy. I never take to my bed - never! DS is 2 and his birthday is right after Christmas - I have to marzipan and ice the Christmas cake, buy extra cards, get stamps and get cards into the post, pick up DSs big present, buy wrapping paper, wrap presents, do loads of laundry and pack because on Thursday we are meant to be leaving to stay with one lot of family until Boxing Day and from there going straight to the next lot. And I’m in bed.

I don’t know if I feel sick because I’m stressed or because of the bug, to be honest.

I had a bit of a meltdown this morning. I'm in the middle of an incredibly intense MSc, I've had flu and two colds in the past 3 weeks, the oven has broken (still waiting for parts), several key presents still haven't arrived and I can't go to my friend's Christmas party because FIL (who hasn't spoken to us in over a year) has decided he is making a grand visit on the 23rd. Oh, and after all that I'm on call on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so may very well miss all the good bits Sad The final straw was DD's coat zip breaking irreparably so will need replacing ASAP.

Just want it all to be over really.

coconutnut · 17/12/2017 19:08

Shock really just go to your friend's party! Fuck you fil!!

burntoutmum · 17/12/2017 19:32

I get overwhelmed every year! It’s both of my sons birthdays in the 6 weeks before Christmas so I find the whole lot stressful... finding 2 lots of presents for them both is hard work! Never mind all the expensive in one go...

NoSquirrels · 17/12/2017 19:36

helps like a head surgeon (pass me the -, where's the -)

Thanks for this, OP! Yes, my DH does this too!
