Where do you wrap your presents?

We moved to a house with an attic this year, and DCs presents have been stored up there. Tomorrow, DH has said he’ll look after the toddler while I do the wrapping, so i asked if he’d get the boxes down for me.his response was that I should do it up there, and when I pointed out it is cold, grubby (it’s a traditional attic without roof insulation and only partial boarding down), he had argued that it’s warm in the attic and that it would be logistically easier that way. When I pointed out that it didn’t seem very logical to me, he initially asked if it because I wanted him to take toddler out so I could relax in front on the TV, then asked if I am scared of the attic.

I didn’t handle it very well, admittedly, and put the phone down on him after he asked if I didn’t want to sit up there for several hours because I was scared.

I suppose what I really want to know is whether I should have just said okay, and sat up in the loft tomorrow, or whether other people would also bring the presents down, wrap them, then put them back up?

I’m the end, I have just been up there and got them all down myself, and will just have to hope the kids don’t spot them (all in sealed brown boxes, and now locked in bedroom).

Our bedroom. We limit access to it all year round anyway

Ropsleybunny · 14/12/2017 22:17

I wrap on the kitchen worktop. It’s exactly the right height. 🤓

SharkSkinThing · 14/12/2017 22:18

Living rooom on the dining table. I like a large surface area and can see what's what. Usually with a small sherry and some music.

Our attic is converted but it's my office space and therefore sacred and tinsel free zone!

In the spare bedroom on the ironing board . I make myself a proper workstation with everthing ready and within reach .
Scissors , tape, ribbon, bows , tags, extra glitter glue , rhinestones etc .
I also cover decent size boxes with wrapping paper for the presents to go into once they are unwrapped on Christmas Day .
I make sure I have carols playing and a glass of wine ... it makes it a pleasure not a chore .
Certainly not the attic !

What kind of idiot expects his wife to sit in an attic wrapping presents for several hours? He would have the job of doing it now as far as I'm concerned.

TheBlueMeaniesAreComing · 16/12/2017 02:03

I wrap them once the dc are asleep in the living room or on the dining table in the kitchen. We have most of them stashed in the cupboard under the stairs and downstairs bathroom. The two dots are right beside each other. Bathroom door locked and the double pram and single pram base blocking the doors. I also have a stash of them in the base of my bed which I’ll wrap upstairs during the day, if I get a chance as I have a little bedhog that refuses to sleep anywhere else 🤣

MinorRSole · 16/12/2017 02:13

I wrap in the living room watching some random boxset (currently the tunnel)
I've never been in my loft, dh is a bit anal protective over his loft space

I suggest your dh does the wrapping in the attic whilst you snuggle up with the wee one and watch a Christmas film

Wrapping in the attic? Angry

I’d actually be serious upset that he thought that was a reasonable thing to suggest.

When the D.C. were little we always did it together in front of the fire with Love Actually playing.

Now they stay up later I wrap in my bedroom with the door locked.

bimbobaggins · 16/12/2017 07:25

I wrap mine in my bedroom on the ironing board because it’s the perfect height for me , watching tv

Dolceandgabbana14 · 16/12/2017 07:38

Ropsleybunny I've discovered the kitchen worktop this year as well. How did I not think of it before? Perfect height, can spread out, don't have to keep getting up for something that's just out of reach as I'm up anyway and near the mulled wine and mince pies

Stompythedinosaur · 16/12/2017 10:35

Definitely downstairs in comfort in front of the TV! I can't believe your dp thinks you should be cold and uncomfortable for several hours for no reason.

idontlikealdi · 16/12/2017 10:37

Dining table so I can do it all easily. Music and wine a must.

Yorkshiremum17 · 16/12/2017 10:42

Dining table whilst DH takes DS to scouts! Can get both lots of presents fine and or the way before they get back. Then stashed in my wardrobe.

When DS was small it used to be in the living room on Christmas eve, sadly he's to big to go to bed at 7pm now😀

glitterlips1 · 16/12/2017 10:47

I coud do mine in the attic because it has flooring and has lights but I don't even store the christmas presents up there. I usually do my wrapping up in front of the TV with a glass of baileys. Or if the children are at home then I go into my bedroom and lock the door!

longtompot · 16/12/2017 10:47

I've always wrapped presents on my bed. Its odd hes saying you should do yours in the attic. It takes me ages to wrap mine, and unless you have a table and chair up there, you will be very achy afterwards.
Can you get to the attic and bring the presents down? If so, do that and wrap them where YOU want to with a glass or two of Wine

endehors · 16/12/2017 10:59

I wouldn’t sit in the attic for (potentially) hours to wrap presents. It’s bloody freezing, dusty and uncomfortable.

I’d have got them down too. In fact I must wrap ours this weekend!

Annwithnoe · 16/12/2017 14:10

I'm another kitchen counter wrapper. My back gets all kinked bending over to wrap on coffee tables or floors.

Our nursery, now unused has become my gift wrapping room. It also doubles as holiday case packing room at other times.

Arrowfanatic · 16/12/2017 15:43

In the lounge whilst watching tv. I wrap some whilst the kids are at school and then the majority on xmas eve with my husband with a glass of something nice and a movie on.

I can't believe your DH suggested the attic, what a knob.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 16/12/2017 16:32

@acornsandnuts the ironing board!! That's total genius. I get a sore back every single year from wrapping on the bed or floor.

Sheepasaurus · 17/12/2017 21:46

I can't even physically get into our loft let alone wrap presents up there! We normally wrap at the dining table, really must start at some point soon.

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 17/12/2017 21:58

In the living room with a bottle after they've all fallen asleep. I've just finished mine. Due to random incidences over the last few years we've ended up doing it on Christmas Eve previously. Nightmare.

Fragglewump · 17/12/2017 22:00

Not the loft - he’s wrong - it’s freezing, full of spiders and dead bugs - yuck! Not much space to move either and you might fall through the ceiling if it’s not fully boarded! Why don’t you send him up to the loft to wrap presents if it’s so toasty and lovely up there!
