Amazon Echo v Amazon Echo dot

As far as I know, the echo dot is just an echo without the speaker.

I've got the echo dot and I love it. It's loud enough for the kitchen and connects to our soundbar for the television for when we want it louder.

I got mine for £17 using my Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

The larger Echo has a nice speaker built in that provide good quality sound for music, streaming radio programs, etc. The Echo dot has a tiny little miserable speaker and is meant to connect to a better speaker by Bluetooth, which is an additional bother. Buy him the larger Echo if it's within your budget.

Or get the Google Home.

If you like sound quality and don’t have a blue tooth speaker get the echo, if you have a speaker or don’t care about quality, it’s plenty loud enough, just get the dot.

Basically the extra thirty quid is for the built in speaker.
