Teachers presents

Any teachers on here? Do you like home made food presents or not really trust them? Would you genuinely just prefer a bottle of wine?

Long standing teacher here.
If I knew the family well, I’d trust homemade. But mainly if they looked like they’d been made by you and not the child. I barely eat the things my own make and I know where they’ve been!

I’m always happy to receive alcohol. If it’s not something I drink, I can always take it to a party or offer it to relatives. Actually, alcohol is my favourite gift (and, yes, I don’t expect them, do appreciate a handwritten card, etc) but maybe that’s just because I teach full time as a single mum of two. Perhaps I need it! Grin

Teacher here - no, I usually don't trust homemade food. Alcohol is a much better choice.

Cards or a nice letter are best, though!

It depends really. I do eat homemade food gifts if I know the family reasonably well but I have some colleagues who always throw them out. A bottle of wine/box of crocs is probably safer if you feel you need to get something. But honestly, the things I really treasure are homemade cards from the children. Cliched but true.

same as Nap Queen, everyone enjoys a coffee or a muffin, the £5 will even get you coffee and Toast for breakfast, so its a nice gift.

If we lived near a decent coffee chain that would be a great idea but out here they'd never get used! Normally the kids do handmade cards rather than presents but this year DS's teacher and TA have both gone above and beyond so wanted to get them something.

  • Just realised I wrote box of crocs instead of box of chocs. Don’t do the first one. That would be weird.

TA here, I got one card last year and I was over the moon. But I guess that's just the disadvantage of being secondary.
