How do you display your cards?

We usually staple them (stapling the back of the card) to a ribbon, blutac the card shut and pin the ribbon to the top of a door, we get three ribbons per door.

This is a pain in the arse, the cards pop-open, the ribbons flap, it looks messy.

What do you lovely lot do with your cards?

I put a string across the brickwork above the mantelpiece and also another string across the beams in the ceiling and hang the cards on them. Old cottage with low ceilings though so I can reach!

BearSoFair · 09/12/2017 16:39

We pin lines of string on a wall and hang cards from them. Not perfect though as at least one string will fall down and need re-doing at some point!

tvhearts · 09/12/2017 16:42

Like others, hang on washing line type string on walls. Sounds miserable but I don't like the clutter of Christmas!!

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 09/12/2017 16:58

Frankly I don’t. I think they’re a waste of people’s money because I hate cards cluttering the place up. I don’t send many either.

BlackPeppercorn · 09/12/2017 17:08

Blu tac on the patio doors. I HATE it when there's cards on all the surfaces falling down all over the place and no way am I sticking pins in the lovely new walls I paid a lot of money for this year!

RatOnnaStick · 09/12/2017 17:11

In a pile on the side.

Redglitter · 09/12/2017 17:12

I put up my family cards others lie in a pile on the sideboard til I get really fed up looking at them & bin them

Desmondo2016 · 09/12/2017 17:17

I don't send any and I don't display any that get sent to me. I can't bare them!

DandelionAndBedrock · 09/12/2017 17:19

My mum does something similar but with a hot glue gun instead of blu tac. If you get a decent shiny ribbon then the glue peels off so ribbon can be reused next year.

bakingcupcakes · 09/12/2017 17:21

I hook fishing wire over the ends of the curtain poles and hang them on that. It's a bit of pain closing the curtains but I don't want pins in my paintwork so it's worth it.

Polyanthus · 09/12/2017 17:26

I used to do the same as you, OP, but used a dab of glue rather than blue tack to hold cards shut and then used a large blob of blue tack at bottom to stop the ribbon flapping against the door.

However we get far fewer cards theses days - kids not at primary and we send and receive fewer (mainly just older rellies now) so I didn't bother last year. I just slid the cards we did receive in between books on the bookshelves. cards are definitely on the way out I think, Quite nice for saying hello to a great aunt but I keep in touch with other friends so much more easily these days through social media etc, that sending a bit of folded Paper at Christmas just seems a bit weird.

dudsville · 09/12/2017 17:26

Last year I blu-tacked them to the sliding glass doors. The year before I stapled them to a ribbon hanging down from a hallway door. The year before that I hung the ribbons on the book shelf in garland-shaped swathes. I'm not sure yet what to do this year. I like them but they are also a pain!

insancerre · 09/12/2017 17:27

Hate Christmas cards with a passion
I think they are completely pointless and a waste of money

TrinityBelle · 09/12/2017 17:31

I've used this in the past and it's been great. I forgot to buy it last year so didn't put the cards

I stand them on a couple of shelves on a wall unit when I open them. If therea re too many I take earlier ones down to put new ones up. Ones I like will stay on display and ones I don't like might not get put up at all.

Mil.always has to comment about us not having many cards but unlike her I dont save old ones to put up every year to boost the display.

We don't send many out any more.

GrumpySusan · 09/12/2017 17:46

On ribbon on the beams, they are a pain though and the place looks so tidy when I take them down!
@TrinityBelle just a heads up but your name and a bit of address is on your screenshot!

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 09/12/2017 17:48

Display them on the mantelpiece but then we only receive and send about 10. Kids keep theirs in their bedrooms.

Marissa2727 · 09/12/2017 19:48

Some on the window sill and then I hang a piece of string along one wall and clip the smaller ones on with tiny little pegs Smile

JezzaNotTrezza · 09/12/2017 21:28

Gripping Stuff patterned tape from Lakeland. Doesn't damage wallpaper and holds cards up really well.

Migraleve · 09/12/2017 21:35

I put them in the bin. Not even sorry.

AnonEvent · 09/12/2017 21:38

Like loads of you, I don't love Christmas clutter. I mean, I really LOVE Christmas, and I love it being festive, but I also keep quite a tidy house (so start petitioning to get rid of the tree by 27th).

I'll look into the gripping tape (from Lakeland and Amazon). I do quite like the idea of only showcasing the nicer cards... we have three so far and all three are really tasteful and festive, those can stay (I was worried that would make me appear ungrateful, so I'm happy to see it's accepted practice).

Family ones go on the mantelpiece and some others on the piano but more often than not they are left in a pile in the study waiting for someone to sort them out. Not my favorite part of Christmas.

73kittycat73 · 10/12/2017 00:09

Oh dear, it's a bit Bah humbug in here isn't it?! I love all things Christmas, including the cards. No idea where I'm going to put them this year yet. Will be putting them up though!

glitterlips1 · 10/12/2017 00:20

No idea where I will put them this year but I doubt I will need that much space because so many people including my mother have said they aren't sending cards this year. I think they are fazing out, I haven't received one yet.

PutThatDownNow · 10/12/2017 00:26

I have a nice Christmas patterned box (shoebox size and shape) which I put most of them in. Then we can look through them when we want but they don't clutter the place up. I do stand up family ones on bookcase or windowsill.
