When do you do your advent calendars?

DH had his advent calendar chocolate already before he went to work and suggested giving the DDs theirs in the morning too. But I think for the DDs I'd rather do it after their tea in the evening because whilst it would be okay on a day like today when I'm off work, trying to fit something else in to the hectic mornings where both me and DH are trying to get ready for work, and get the girls ready for nursery on time (which is already a nightmare) is too stressful. When do you do yours?

At breakfast time

Trialsmum · 01/12/2017 12:29

At breakfast time, but ds is 8 and an only child so it only take a minute.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/12/2017 12:32

As soon as we get up, it only takes a moment. I cannot imagine leaving them till the evening TBH.

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 01/12/2017 12:34

It takes about 10 seconds to open a calendar. Perhaps leave them on the breakfast table and tell them it’s their job to remember. If they don’t then they wait until after school?

SleepingStandingUp · 01/12/2017 12:34

Oh crap I need to find my sons advent calendar out of the cupboard

SmokyRobinson · 01/12/2017 12:35

On school days, after school.
On non-school days , anytime after breakfast.

Its a choc advent calendar

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 01/12/2017 12:36

As soon as they wake up, before they put their uniforms on. It's one of my rules that they like! Xmas Grin

ChippyMinton · 01/12/2017 12:38

Whenever they like.

Juanbablo · 01/12/2017 12:54

Dcs have two. I let them have both this morning but told them that from now on it will be one in the morning and one after school.

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 01/12/2017 12:58

In the morning. It's being used as a 'get dressed quickly' bribe as that's when it can be opened!

The have Minion Megablok ones too, but don't know about them yet. They'll be after school openers as there's no time to build in the morning!

MrsPear · 01/12/2017 13:08

In the morning - it is a treat.

Onehellofaride · 01/12/2017 14:03

At breakfast time. It only takes a minute and everyone starts the day in a lovely mood.

Battyoldbat · 01/12/2017 14:06

As soon as they get up, it takes seconds. Even the Lego one only takes max of a minute to put whatever it is together.

DialsMavis · 01/12/2017 14:08

When they are ready for school, speeds things up

TheBlueMeaniesAreComing · 01/12/2017 14:53

Chocolate one when they get home from school. Book advent after dinner when in their pjs

KitKat1985 · 01/12/2017 16:09

Oh looks like I'm being a grump then making them wait until teatime! Shock

If they get ready and sorted they can open their advent.
I'm not quite sure how the 20 seconds it takes to open it would affect your morning so severely!

reluctantbrit · 01/12/2017 16:17

DD passes the family one on the way to breakfast, so if it is her turn she takes the chocolate and eats it after breakfast.

Her bracelet one can be opened after breakfast when DH and I open our calendar as well.

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome · 01/12/2017 16:19

DS woke me up at 6.30 this morning, pulling me out of bed because he was so excited to open his advent calendar. Not sure I could have made him wait til the afternoon / evening

AdventCaroline · 01/12/2017 16:21

We do one in the morning (no chocolate) and the other in the afternoon (chocolate one).
DC share so alternate morning and afternoon - they are much better than me at keeping track at whose turn it is.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/12/2017 16:48

Ours was slowed down today by the realisation that both the adults in the family seem to need reading glasses to read the numbers on the doors Xmas Sad

ItWentInMyEye · 01/12/2017 17:00

This morning is was as soon as they came downstairs! It's always on a morning here though.

ArriettyMatilda · 01/12/2017 17:04

We do ours after tea! DD is only 3 so isn't aware that anyone does it differently.

KitKat1985 · 01/12/2017 18:54

Oh to be clear opening the door takes 10 seconds... The three year old's tantrums each day about only being able to open one door can go on for a looong time! Sigh! That was my anxiety about doing it in the morning!

OP the people who say it takes a minute have older kids!! Littlies and advent calendars are more time consuming...
In our house you can open in the morning in COMPLETELY ready with time in hand, otherwise it's at the end of the day. And to be honest the small ones forget all about it after a few days too.
