The picture on the right looks very close to the originals.

The best advice is not to purchase from Amazon or ebay but from a reputable, official toy shop. Not saying Amazon is not reputable but they involve marketplace, third party sellers.

Yh I got mine on Amazon, combed through the listing, it seemed legit obviously were knock offs when they arrived

They even use pictures of the genuine items on their listings so you can't really tell. Then you have trouble trying to claim the money back

I was saying to DH earlier that the UK must be really flooded with fakes. I was trying to think of another time trading standards issued advice on a specific toy. (I will just say I do have a shite memory so it could happen every year).

I got some from Argos- I have no idea what Fingerlings are supposed to look like as I have only heard of them on here! Would you say Argos would be genuine?

Yes Argos will be fine. There was a list of what was on the box of the original vs the fakes. IIRC the picture of the monkey on the packaging should be the same as the actual monkey, the hair should be real (not plastic), the box should have wowee (the manufacturer) & fingerling (not finger monkey etc). Think there was also a comment on how many children were on the image but I can't remember how many were on the real ones.

I think the biggest issue is when they can be sold via a 3rd party. Say amazon for example fingerling bought from Amazon themself fine, from market place fake or not delivered.

I have heard so many horror stories about the fakes. One had a razor blade in the packaging

Others have had the batteries exploding whilst the child was playing with it. I could go on.

What are fingerlings?!

I bought from wowcher and they are obviously fake and look very cheap. I am going to check if there is a ce mark on them to ensure they are safe to to be sold here and if not then I will be asking for a refund.

They are interactive monkies (or special edition Sloth or Unicorn). They are getting increasingly harder to get hence all of the fakes around.

I went into Smyths a few days ago and you can preorder them with a £5 deposit.

Loads of Fingerlings in my local Asda yesterday on a cardboard stand

I ordered one from The Entertainer a couple of weeks back and it has been despatched today woohoo! I would hope that isn't a fake.
