I'd like to get my 3 year old an mp3 player for her room as cds just get scratched and lost but I want something with a speaker not earphone jack. Do these exists under £80 which is how much the ocarina is?

We gave my son my old phone for his 4th birthday. No sim, apps removed except for the music playing one and a piano keyboard one. It had a decent size screen so he could use the album covers to navigate, and he learned to tell the tracks apart really well.

Obviously the speaker's not the best but it's fine for a toddler.

If you don't have an old phone, you can get a cheap non-famous brand smartphone for about £50. I stress DS's was purely used as an MP3 player not a phone.

I agree with custarddoughnuts a cheap smartphone/ iPod touch or something with bluetooth and then a Bluetooth speaker. Or you can even get speakers that fit into the headphone hole on the device if you just want to get a standard mp3 player.

We just used the phone's speaker, it's fine for youtube videos etc and also this. Totally hassle free and he could work it all himself. You can get toddler apps for playing music but we found the default app better.
