So a bit of background and then hopefully you creative lot will come up with some cracking and possibly original ideas for these packs!

Im doing my whole family a version of an 'emergency pack' to survive a mini 'emergency'. This will be in a gift bag (either A5/A4/A3 if needs be) with a little list inside of what each bit is 'for' Ideally 4-6 bits per pack

Ddad (late 50's, into DIY and Wine, not a lot else) and DBro (mid 20's DINKY, just bought first House, tighter than a ducks arse Grin ) are getting a DIY Emergency Bag: Currently Containing; Sugru something sweet to help them out of a sticky situation and FormCards just to inFORM you, these will help in any DIY emergency

  • looking to get a couple more bits -

DMum (Mid 50's, likes reading, very random, works in a convenience store) is getting a 'Work Emergency Bag': Currently Containing; Change snacking is good for the brain, mints to get rid of last nights garlic breath, a notepad and pen to catch them at their own game (in-joke about other colleagues writing mistakes down) but need something a bit more... substantial i suppose!

DSiL (Mid 20's, new job as a teacher, another tight-arsed DINKY) is getting an OFSTED emergency bag; pretend reading glasses to make you look more intelligent, a mini bottle of prosecco for the calm after the shit storm, a whiteboard pen for when they've stolen all of your working ones maybe a sewing kit- again need one or two more bits.

Me (Late 20's, housewife, not a lot of 'spare'time) am getting a 'Free-Time' emergency bag; reusable shopping bag it's unexpected free time, go- go- go! coffee voucher as before maybe a mills and boon?

DP (Early 30's, manager, likes football and gambling) is also getting a 'Free-Time emergency bag; change for parking and a pint, william hill cash voucher thing to win your fortunes, then i'm stuck

DSis (early 20's, just started uni, no partner, quite immature) a uni survival kit - plasters for mishaps, tequila for emergency emergencies, sewing kit for last minute fancy dress, Pro Plus for keeping your eyes open when you have left it till the last minute and glasses with eyes painted onto them for when the previous doesn't work etc

and DD's (6/3, will be spoilt to death christmas but will also like to be involved in this- it will be given out on boxing day when we are all together) 'Spy-Kit Bag' Mini periscope/ear horn for listening to those secret conversations invisible ink pen/paper for messages away from adult eyes rubbish disguise so nobody knows who you are ?

So any more ideas, or replacements if something seems spectacularly shit Grin would be fab thanks!

DDad - little toolkit?
DMum - book token or a book you know she will like?
DSil - Whistle??
You- why are you doing your own???
DP - Scratchcard?
DSis - Pack of condoms?
DD's - whoopee cushion/magnifying glass?

maggienolia · 28/11/2017 16:35

Must admit that the condom gift had occurred to me too.

Love the concept OP
How about mini bottle of wine for your DD? Or an aerator for when you just can't wait
Or this wine stopper

Maybe a mini torch for the new home owner or matches and candles for a power outage ... can't think of anything witty to say about them?

I'm not sure if something like these would work into your theme?

Lowering the tone of your student pack: emergency toilet paper

tea bag? For serious emergencies

Flying tiger do packs of moustaches (emergency disguises?)

A book from "blind date with a book". I can't wait to have time to open my birthday present and find out what it is.

TheImprobableGirl · 28/11/2017 18:55

Great ideas, thanks!

choco I’ve popped one of those blind date with a book for me and dm- fab idea! (itstheyearzero I do my own because I would like someone to do it for me, and they just wouldn’t have thought of it! Not enough time/money/creativity. It’s been 6 years since I started doing a little something on Boxing Day, and I got sad being the only one without something Smile ) the magnifying glass and whoopee cushion are really great ideas, they were having great fun with a fart canister the other day Hmm

Forgot about scratchcards! Argh see this is why I needed help! Also —condoms— thanks

annwithnoe I could put a mini bottle of wine in for Dd but I suspect that even in my family 6 would be deemed a smidge young Wink , toilet paper on the other hand, is inspired! And I love those passport notebooks

Will put a teabag in each, Just in case it is a real live emergency emergency.
