Hello lovely Mumsnetters!

My mum has a physically demanding job that has left her hands cracked, dry, bruised and swollen. I’d love to get her some nice hand cream for Xmas but don’t know where to start looking. I want something that will really help her hands, but that also looks nice/feels like a treat! Any recommendations?

The body shops hemp hand cream. Smells funky but it's really good.

Ipitythescale · 26/11/2017 19:24

I love the Liz Earle ones

roobrr · 26/11/2017 19:25

Nanasueathome · 26/11/2017 19:25

HaggisMuncher · 26/11/2017 19:27

Crabtree and Evelyn have some lovely gift packs with handbag size tubes in, with money off for black Friday til tomorrow x

ChesterFuckingDraws · 26/11/2017 19:28

L’occitaine shea Butter one is lovely.

goose1964 · 26/11/2017 19:28

L' occitane do some lovely hand creams but for chapped hands Norwegian Formula is by far the most effective as it was designed for fishermen

RB68 · 26/11/2017 19:30

Norwegian is brilliant and also look for one called Gardeners Handcream - can't recall who makes it but its brilliant

molemonkey · 26/11/2017 19:32

Nuxe is amazing and fab for sensitive skin! Marks and Spencer's stock it

NoStraightEdges · 26/11/2017 19:32

Buy a selection so she can choose? Something like the Elizabeth Arden 8hour cream, a day wear one (Aveeno?) and a posher one like Clarins.

And buy some cotton gloves too!

gingerclementine · 26/11/2017 19:37

That hemp Body Shop stuff is evil. I don't know why people recommend it. It stinks and is very greasy, and doesn't help with dry skin.
The gardeners one made by Crabtree and Evelyn is the best of the posh ones, but the only one that works for me, and for DH whose hands really dry out in winter, is Ponds cocoa butter hand cream. It's even better than Norwegian. You could get her that and then some scented ones for fun. Cath Kidston does some pretty scented ones in a gift box that smell divine.

L'Occitane Shea is gorgeous and non greasy.
DD has the vanilla one , it smells like carnations/cloves
Almond one is my favourite of theirs but it's too lightweight for winter

I love BS Absinthe (not tried the Hemp but might do my hands are evil at the moment)

If its not just the dryness , buy her Arnica Gel ( Simply Beautiful Cosmetics on QVC do pump bottles) its a gel but you could layer it.

JapaneseTea · 26/11/2017 19:49

I was given the White Company ‘hand elixir’ and that is really good, and feels nice afterwards.

purplecorkheart · 26/11/2017 19:56

Clarins is the one my mom swears by. She has people who comment how young her hands look.

Hand cream made for nurses! Saves my poor mitts from constant hand washing!

CustardDoughnutsRule · 26/11/2017 20:22

Body shop moringa for gorgeous smell, and the hemp one for hardcore moisturising. Yes it is greasy and the smell is not exactly luxurious, but it is the best I've found on chapped hands.

The cotton gloves to go with are a fantastic idea.

BifsWif · 26/11/2017 20:28

L’occitane!

They do some lovely sets, the shea butter one is my favourite.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 26/11/2017 21:12

Burts Bees creams do a wonderful job on my sad and flaky paws.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2017 21:16

The best one for hands that are falling apart is Flexitol, but it's not very exciting! I'd get a couple of tubes of that and a couple of the mini Aveda Hand Reliefs, so that she can dot them around house/bag.

Gingernaut · 26/11/2017 21:16

This stuff is brilliant.

Some Eucerin stuff containing urea for the night, to be worn under cotton gloves.

L'Occitane one's are lovely. The code ANNALOVE was giving a free cracker containing a mini hand cream and free postage with any order the other day, not sure if it's still valid but worth a try.
