People who know about acoustic guitars

Hi
Dh has just bought an acoustic guitar for dd (14) off eBay. It doesn't come with anything ie no strap or bag etc.
What extras will we need to buy to go with it? I assume she can begin to learn using YouTube and if she likes it we can do lessons.
Thanks!

You need a padded bag if he's going to be carrying it out for lessons & a strap. A stand (they say if it's on display they're more likely to practice). You can get a stool with a footrest which might be ok for him (my DS is only 7 so they're too big for him but I've bought him a foot rest) & some plectrums.

Sorry, for her!

Thanks! Really helpful.

Okay. Seen a strap and stand I'll buy off amazon. Confused though at the range of spectrums on sale. Would appreciate any links to starter set on amazon!

She'll need to be able to tune it - there are electronic tuners that clip on the end which are good, or free apps for smartphones if she has one. I use a capo which she'll probably need if she wants to play along with pop songs. Plectrums are for guitars with half metal half plastic strings - if it's all plastic it's a Spanish style guitar which you play with fingers.

Not sure if there are any starter sets on Amazon. I bought DS a left handed guitar set on Amazon which came with strap, bag (which was too thin so had to buy a better one) & a few plectrums. You'd probably be better off sourcing them separately from Amazon or another guitar shop.

This is the case we bought which is pretty good

Thank you everyone for the help. I assume it's a full size guitar. Can't see anywhere saying not.

I like 0.8-0.9 plectrums. Something like this amazon. Watch what logos they have on them, some can be rude.

That's helpful, universal truth.
What's a capo?

Sorry, yes the case we bought was fora 3/4 guitar but if you can get the same brand for a full size it's a good case

Hercules12 · 25/11/2017 21:39

Thanks 4forksake!

Capo is a bar that goes across the guitar to make the strings shorter and therefore higher. Something like this

Jasminedes · 25/11/2017 21:42

Tell her to try an app called Usician

Hercules12 · 25/11/2017 21:46

Thanks. Capo added to amazon basket. Usician app noted for Xmas day. This is great!
