DSS is off to uni in September, he's really hard to buy for so I'm trying to think ahead to what he might need or enjoy once he's a student. Any ideas much appreciated.

Bedding - Thin single duvet as halls are usually very well heated and second year houses come with double beds that require a whole new set of bedding

Basic kitchen stuff (hamper style?)

Or perhaps vouchers for Wilko and Ikea if you think he'll want to choose his own stuff

Cook book
Bedding
Hold-all/weekend bag for essential visits home!
Laptop case
Bottle opener

Great ideas, thank you. Bottle opener and weekend bag added to my shopping list.

Cookery lessons or a decent cook book!

Decent art (Framed) for on his wall or to stand up if he cant have things stuck to his walls. DD took a 5foot high framed Tim Walker print.

Also, decent outdoor coat/kit? or gym kit? if he is into those things.

SimplyNigella · 25/11/2017 17:23

Gym bag is a good idea. I was wondering whether to get him some sort of Bluetooth speaker for his room too?

Gift voucher for the local cinema say enough for 4 student viewings.
Weatherspoon voucher.
Beanbag seat. Never enough sofa space in halls. This went down really well.

I wouldn’t buy bedding until he knows what’s size he need, I had a double bed in my halls, and he might end up in a house.
Wash bag, small case for when he comes home for the weekend, toasty maker, speaker is a good idea.

Good point on the bedding. He's just applying at the moment so we don't know which uni, what type of halls etc, which makes anything for his room harder.

I've found a nice weekend bag and wireless speaker so that's a good start. I'm also considering a Spotify subscription or similar.
