Confused - Amazon Echo & fire stick

Doseydots · 22/11/2017 18:50

I am hoping to pick up an echo on good Friday as a family Christmas present. I am already an amazon prime member so do I need to upgrade my subscription? Also what is a fire stick, do I also need one of these.

I don’t want to be buying or paying for unnecessary things but also I want to have everything I need for Christmas Day so we can be. Up and running.

Thank you

The fire stick is a device you plug in to
Your tv to watch things on prime. It also has BBC Iplayer on etc and I think you can play games.

Can't help with echo as we don't have one.

I have both. If you have prime you can access film/tv on your fire included in your prime membership. With the echo lots of music is included in your prime membership, just tell echo what music you want it to play. You can get a wider range of music by upgrading and paying a bit extra a month for more music but I haven’t felt the need. I just tell it to ‘play 90’s music’ and it does! Hope this helps.

The echo dots are already on sale on amazon for £34. I’ve brought one for ds2. I didn’t realIw you could play music through them Too with my prime membership!

Two different things,

A fire stick is to watch programs on your tv

An echo is more a gadget that is like Siri on your iphone but on steroids, you ask it the news, the weather, or to play games or play music. If you have amazon prime you get the music and it is actually very good, I use both it and Spotify. You just say the radio station or the play list or name a song you wish to listen to.

if you already have a smart tv that has the amazon app on it you probably won't need a firestick. We have one plugged into an older tv so that we can watch amazon prime , netflix, iplayer etc on it.
We don't have one for the other tv as it already has all the apps installed.

Good Friday is several months away yet.

RestingBitchFaced · 23/11/2017 12:57

I've just ordered one - you download the app on your phone apparently, and need an Amazon account. Lol at Good Friday (obviously meant Black Friday)

Doseydots · 23/11/2017 17:21

Thank you for the replies, yes I meant Black Friday 🙄

What is the difference between the echo and the echo dot?

Talisin · 23/11/2017 18:18

The Dot is much smaller and the speaker isn’t as good.

Talisin · 23/11/2017 18:20

Incidently, the Dot is very slightly cheaper at John Lewis than Amazon right now.

We live in Sweden and we have a fire stick in order to download KODI (I know) I am not a member of Prime

Graphista · 24/11/2017 02:37

We've ordered a fire stick, don't have Amazon prime but want to use it for catch up tv, Netflix, you tube etc which I believe are all possible?

Can you put other apps on it? Eg I have "tvplayer" on tablet but would like to watch on the 'big telly'.

Dd has mentioned kodi but I'm wary

MammaGnomes · 24/11/2017 09:14

I'm wanting to get the echo today also. Do I need Amazon prime to use it?
Also am I right in thinking that it won't go any lower the £69.99 on Amazon

Erica891 · 24/11/2017 09:44

A fire stick is to watch programs on your tv sourced from the internet and An echo is a gadget like Siri.
