I'm keen to get a game suitable for both DC aged 10 and 7. Ones that we like are Exploding Kittens, Rat-a-Tat Cat, Guess Who, Labyrinth, Carcassone and Monopoly Jnr. DC2 is only just 7 and a bit of a fidget, so not ready for longer games like proper monopoly yet, but is outgrowing our Orchard Games collection.

Cash machine monopoly is quick and over when someone goes bankrupt or the cash machine runs out. Great for younger children as if the cash machine spits out 2 chance cards you choose which one you want to do. Or Game of Life.

Co-op games where you work together rather than against each other are good. Castle Panic is our favourite. Each time you roll the dice you slay trolls and goblins but then you also progress the game so more trolls are added etc. Also Flash Point - a building on fire, same idea, fight the fire with each turn but also progress the fire.

There are lots of YouTube videos on board game playing and so it shows you how to set it up and play. It gives a great visual as to whether you would like it.

I have a 10 and 8 year old although it's my eldest who struggles with longer games.
Others we like are:

Indigo
Ingenious
Callisto
Go Nuts for Donuts
Zeus on the Loose
Sushi Go
Dragonwood
Marrakech
Doodle Dice
Kingdomino
World Monuments

Watching with interest. Although we did get Qwirkle a couple of years ago and never got into it. Maybe should try again. The Castle one looks fun but expensive. What's the kitten one like?

excellent, thank you. I'll look these all up. we do like Forbidden Island, so I'll have a look at the other cooperative ones.

Merry, Exploding Kittens is a very straightforward card game, with enough chance elements to level the playing field for a mixed age group. Probably 5-15 minutes a game.

Splendor is a good one, doesn't take too long to play through, fairly simple but there's enough 'to' it to be interesting.

And in a couple of years, Settlers of Catan and Takenoko Smile

Games I play with my 7 year old

Kingdomino is brilliant. More fun than Carcassonne.

Jamaica - 3 player pirate race game. Great fun but also a bit strategic.

Jaipur - 2 player card game. Addictive.

Barenpark - tile laying games with Tetris style tiles with the theme of building a bear zoo

Karuba - another tile laying game with a bingo mechanic (all players have to pick up the same number tiles each time) about laying a path for your explorer to reach a hidden temple

The Lost Expedition - cooperative card game, basically about using resources wisely in order to reach the city of gold. Can be difficult.

Codenames - absolutely excellent word game for 4+ players.

Can recommend Survive - Escape from Atlantis. My daughter (not a board game fan) started to play it from 7 and really got into it.
