Cookbook recommendations

This year my brother has gotten into cooking. I'd like to get him a cookbook but am a bit stumped. I suspect he would think he is a bit too cool for something like Jamie Oliver. I was thinking of something like Byron but not just burger focussed. He is a big meat eater though. Another one I have seen is Eat Delicious which looks yummy. Can anyone recommend any others?

If you want a purely meat focused book then either The Ginger Pig or Nose to Tail might interest him.

If he's just gotten into cooking though then Darina Allen's The Forgotten Skills of Cooking is brilliant. It covers everything from foraging, to making your own sausages/blood pudding to bread making to cider.

Either of the two books by The Fabulous Baker Brothers (certainly not just about baking - includes pies, curries, fish n chips etc...)

We have a book called Porn Burger which is really good (although I know you said not specifically a burger book), and can second the fabulous baker boys.
Also, if he's into his meat, we have the Hawksmoor book, very meat based, lots of ways to cook different cuts of steaks, nice sides, great little cocktail section at the back too!

Thanks everyone. I've been browsing your suggestions via amazon. I think the Hawksmoor one might be a winner. Looks like a good balance of recipes and info, while also looking delicious!

Firebox has some brilliant cook books...The Lambshank Redemption & Cooking With Coolio are both brilliant. There’s also a Geek cook book & one for stoners. All a bit tongue in cheek but with real recipes.

I received a copy of the Larousse Gastronomique which is like a food encyclopedia- great for traditional recipes plus explanations of what things actually are/cuts of meat ways to cut things. I love it!

It was firebox that inspired me to look at other cookbooks. I was going to get him one of those then thought actually, he seems to be taking it seriously so he might like something more informative. He has always cooked well but this year he has taken more of an interest in different ways of cooking. I'll take a look at Larousse too.
