Do you use left over wrapping paper

Just that really, I like to use one paper for DD, different one for DS and again a different one for DH but just checked so see what I have left from previous years and I have quite a few different rolls left so don’t know whether to buy more (which feels wasteful) or just do a random mix for them all this year.

I buy new for DS and DH each year, but have been using up leftovers for everyone else the last couple of years as I had a ridiculous amount!

ijustwannadance · 11/11/2017 11:36

You could donate them to local charity shop. Ours do cheap, wrapped, lucky dip prizes for kids so would happily take it.

Or just use it up this year and start fresh next xmas.

CappuccinoCake · 11/11/2017 11:37

I had no idea people bought new! I just buy as it runs out, so will often buy a new one but do a mix and use up old one. why wouldn't you?

ChoccyJules · 11/11/2017 11:37

I use it to wrap stocking gifts. They are ripped open so quickly nobody realises it's crumpled. Oh, you meant the never used stuff? Definitely use here.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 11/11/2017 11:39

Always use up the old stuff.

drspouse · 11/11/2017 11:40

Why on earth not?

TweetTweetTweet · 11/11/2017 11:40

Another one wondering , why wouldn’t you use it? It’s wrapping paper and it’s gets binned after it’s ripped off Confused

Squeegle · 11/11/2017 11:41

This is a bit of a first world problem isn’t it? I would always use up the paper I have.

reetgood · 11/11/2017 11:42

Yes. And if it’s nice paper I unwrap carefully and reuse it...

Frazzled2207 · 11/11/2017 11:44

I’ve never used specific paper for specific people. Used up one roll then gone on to the next.

Of course. I usually use it to wrap advent calendar presents but just putting chocs on this year. I don’t obsess over themes and being match matchy but do make sure Father Christmas uses different paper from us.

noidontdothat · 11/11/2017 11:53

We actually reuse paper.

It’s a family joke that we seen paper go around for a couple of years. Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 11/11/2017 11:59

Yep, use each roll until done here.

alletik · 11/11/2017 12:24

I buy the DDs a new roll each every year. This is their Santa presents.

We have separate paper for Xmas presents under the tree, to each other etc. This gets reused year after year and I just add more in the same colour theme so it all ties in.

Left over from children’s Santa presents gets kept for next year and used for presents for others from the girls. (DDs friends / teacher presents etc...). They’re 11 and 14 now and have never twigged I do this!

BrieAndChilli · 11/11/2017 12:27

I’m like a previous poster
Kids all have a santa paper each year, this is different each year (any surplus is used to wrap up presents for kids friends birthdays - no one has ever twigged!)
Everyone else’s presents gets wrapped in whatever paper i have and I just stock up on similar coloured paper when it’s either cheap or I’m running out.

JemDoughnut · 11/11/2017 13:30

I used to buy new, coordinating wrapping papers every year. And I'd buy way too much, just in case. And I wouldn't throw away the unused paper, because it's wasteful, but I also wouldn't use it the next year. So I ended up with this ridiculous box full of old wrapping paper.

I stopped buying new wrapping paper three years ago, so this will be Christmas No. 3 wrapping only from the box of Christmas past...pretty sure there will still be enough left for next year.

mywayalltheway · 11/11/2017 14:47

And there is always one hey Squeegle 😡 it was a simple/general question no biggie in terms of needing a sarcastic remark, just something I know a lot of people as well as myself like to do.

Whoops this thread had made me feel rather wasteful - I always put away the unused wrapping paper, but by late Spring have invariably got sick of the sight of it in the cupboard and decided to chuck it. I almost always end up doing the same with left over Christmas cards. One day I will find a suitably unobtrusive storage spot and actually keep it for a full year!

confused123456 · 11/11/2017 15:02

We use whatever we have. No point leaving it and wasting it

Frusso · 11/11/2017 15:03

Left overs for stocking fillers

Jaffalong · 11/11/2017 17:23

New roll for dc and previous year's left overs for everyone else until all the parer is used up.

If you don't want to reuse then donate to your dc school PTA to use for Christmas fair lucky dip paper.

paxillin · 11/11/2017 17:35

I found a roll of Winnie the Pooh wrapping paper last year. Youngest householder way too old for Winnie, but too young to find it funny so I had Winnie the Pooh sandwiches for a bit.

I usually use what I have, which can mean that some gifts are wrapped in baking sheets at times.

tralaaa · 12/11/2017 09:07

I use random paper my lot are all young adults with partners, so I wrap the “main” present in my favourite paper I I know it’s that one last one to be opened

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 12/11/2017 09:15

We put the paper away in the loft with the Christmas decorations. I can't get up there so have to wait for dh to get it down. Invariably this doesn't happen till some weeks after the Christmas paper has appeared in the shops and I've looked at it and thought "ooh that's pretty, I'm sure we'll need some more ". So we too have a huge stash.

This year he's brought the paper down nice and early Grin. I've discovered a roll of Disney princess paper from when dd was small - she's now got old enough (15) to appreciate it again, yay!
