Do you use it just for Christmas Day/Boxing Day etc or over the whole Christmas period?

So let christmas dh got me some lovely bits from the Spode Christmas jubilee collection. I loved it so much I went a bit nuts and have managed to amass quite a collection!

Do people tend to use it just on Christmas Day etc or bring it into everyday use over the Christmas period (which would be Dec 1st onwards here) Some if it I would use everyday, mugs etc but it’s not cheap stuff so I’m torn about just starting to use all the plates etc daily (not for the kids, they have melamine bits!!)

I was just wondering what others do!

My DM has the portmeirion, she uses it for all of December until 12th night. Got to get your money's worth innit!

Hippadippadation · 09/11/2017 18:32

Mine come out on December 1st and get used right up until New Year. It's only from Matalan etc though, so not got anything "nice" per se.

You’d be gutted if you broke then before Christmas Day. How about starting in Christmas Day and using for the twelve days of Christmas.

scrivette · 09/11/2017 19:44

Spode Christmas tree bits here too, they come out with the decorations around 1st December until 5th Jan when it all goes back up into the loft.

DM uses Christmas plastic plates and bowls for the grandchildren all year around!

@singadream I'm nearly 50 and only got my Christmas crockery last year- couldn't afford it, or saw a lovely set in a shop on holiday but couldn't get back there in opening hours. If I break a bit I'll replace a bit, I'm definitely enjoying it as much as I can now. 🌲 😊

There are some lovely Christmas table bits in Primark at the moment- I don't see any crockery but read felt place mats etc. I'll be back soon to top up investigate.

Just on Christmas Day for Christmas dinner then back in boxes until Easter they don't have a Christmas patten on them, just used for those two occasions.

VivaJen · 09/11/2017 20:01

I have a full Spode Christmas Tree set which we use from the 1st of December to the 31st (but actually 12th night makes much more sense so I think I'll do that this year!). I have to put the everyday crockery up in the loft in the boxes that the Spode came down in, it's a bit of a pain but I absolutely love it and my family love seeing that the Christmas crockery is out!

Wish I hadn't read this thread, I want some festive crockery now!

suepowell · 09/11/2017 20:29

I would use it for the whole Christmas period and after that too. There is no harm in using them again.

Just back from my local TK Maxx , with 6 Christmas jubilee side plates to add to my plate collection

They also had Old Country Roses dinner plates , some Spode Christmas tree serving dishes , fancy table cloths and napkins

Just keeping an eye out for some fancy wine glasses 🍷🎄❤️

I did have the BHS ivy patterned set (Country Vine IIRC) but the plates were too small for the full meal so we used the white everyday plates (I have round white and oval white steakplates).

I've got some Spode Christmas Tree , Portmerion Holly& Ivy , a dark Victorian street plate (this year they have a Victorian house and a fir/pine cone range in HomeSense / TKMaxx)

I bought the Matalan oval Robin plate last week (got a Sainsbury robin milk jug last year) . I like to use my regular crockery and add the festive bits.

I took my ivy set to the Charity Shop so hopefully someone will enjoy it this Christmas .

I have also just bought myself two more serving dishes! Both Spode Christmas tree, one from TK Maxx and one from Homesense. Really need to stop now.....
