Hello, does anyone have any recommendations for a wooden garage? The ELC ones look ok and are on offer but looking for something that will last and will withstand my son who has asd playing with it. Thank you!

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 03/11/2017 14:01

Living avoid the ELC one. Quality is fairly basic and most annoyingly the ramps aren’t fixed in place, they just sort of rest on a piece of string - why the fuck, I don’t know. Anyway, it’s very annoying because they’re constantly falling down.

Casablanca78 · 03/11/2017 14:01

@livinginhope87 we've not been impressed with the ELC one. My son got last Christmas and unless they've changed the design, the two barriers both broke (even after glueing them) and the two ramps are a really bad design and just sit on a bit of elastic so fall off all the time. That said, my son does play with it a lot.

lamacorn - would the Asda Vet set (different hair colours available) be an acceptable alternative to the Our Generation one? It looks quite similar, but is a bargain at £30.

OnlyGlowingSlightly · 03/11/2017 14:11

Actually, looking at the Our Generation one again, that does look much more impressive... but also much more expensive! Depends on what you're looking for.

livinginhope87 · 03/11/2017 14:13

Thank you Casablanca78 and itsnice. I will avoid the ELC ones as that is the sort of thing that would drive ds mad. Bit worried about buying from studio as my friend had an awfultime wth them setting up a credit account without her permission. But thank you MrsChrimbo Any other suggestions?

gigglingHyena · 03/11/2017 14:33

We had the ELC garage and I have to agree the ramps are a total pain. He preferred the fisher price one my mum had. We used with the matchbox type cars rather than the little people ones.

What he most liked was sending them down the ramps (repeatedly, he also has asd) so we ended up with a click clack track instead.

Argh - DD has just added 'make up' to her Christmas list - she's almost 12 and has only ever worn a bit of nail polish. I do not wear makeup at all so have no clue where to start - can someone recommend a good basic, reasonably priced makeup brand/kit? I don't want her to plaster herself with makeup as she's still only 11 but I suspect this has arrived on her list because her friends wear it so don't want her to be left out.

gingerbreadmam · 03/11/2017 14:36

The sleek kit on boots star gifts might be a good starter scrappy?

Bare minerals is nice to start with too as it is not full on and looks quite natural.

gingerbreadmam · 03/11/2017 14:39

This one

They do nice lip gloss sets too. Could add one of those and a little make up bag? Primark have lots of lovely ones.

Missed a few pages so I don't know if this has already been posted, but the David Walliams Bad Dad book is £5 (hardback) and you get a free audio book of Ratburger in Sainsburys.

Don't bother looking for chocolate or sweet bargains in there though, they were all full price!

hashtagelfie · 03/11/2017 15:11

Just had a ccc alert for glittering garden draggle hatchimal for £47.23, lowest ever price

BluthsFrozenBananas · 03/11/2017 15:14

Superdrug have some very reasonably priced brands, I really like the MUA stuff. If I were buying for young makeup novice I’d probably buy an eyeshadow palette in neutral shades, a black or brown mascara, a lipgloss palette, a subtle blusher and a nice set of makeup brushes, plus some makeup remover and cotton wool and put it all together in a makeup bag.

Sixp · 03/11/2017 15:17

Nzou I have received my raspberry pi. I did get the email and reported it to Amazon as being pretty suspicious, especially since they were aware of the pricing, from the early morning but let some orders through... very strange.

Llamacorn · 03/11/2017 15:36

@sixp that's fab you got the raspberry pi! I'm very jealous!

@onlyglowingslightly thanks for the link to the Asda vet set, I saw them in store a while back but they look quite flimsy and maybe best suited to a younger child. Think I'm going to have to bite the bullet - just hate having to pay full price! Not to mention the outfit I'd have to buy to match and the individual pets..... Confused

Llamacorn · 03/11/2017 15:37

Oh I received a £10 off £40 spend at l'occitane if anyone wants it? Came with my hotel chocolat tasting box (did any one else hate theirs?!)

debbiewest0 · 03/11/2017 15:40

Strawberryfield12 thank you so much for your Lakeland code. Smile

Nzou1050 · 03/11/2017 15:48

Good you got it sixp still waiting for mine to arrive. Is it like the pictures? So weird about that email, I haven’t got one.

Nzou1050 · 03/11/2017 15:49

Has anyone else had the weird email and/or the pi also delivered?

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 03/11/2017 15:51

Llamacorn, hate the chocs you mean? I haven’t opened them yet but chucked most of the free bags of choc gemstones because they were overly sweet and grim.* Doesn’t bode well.*

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 03/11/2017 15:51

Bold fail.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 03/11/2017 15:53

living, we’ve had the ELC garage for 5 years and it’s still working perfectly and in great condition.* Bought the Hot Wheels ultimate this year (DS had a decent size bedroom).*

Sixp · 03/11/2017 15:58

Nzou It looks great. We actually have a first generation one so I knew what I was getting!
