Ideas for 12-18m

I'm really struggling with what to buy for DD who will be 15m at Christmas. Everything seems too young or too old.

At the moment her main interests seem to be trees, remote controls (not the toy version) and chasing the cat around

She's cruising but not walking yet and seems to be getting bored of the toys she currently has. What did your children enjoy at a similar age?

Mine will be 13 months at Christmas. Current favourite things include extention leads, trying to get in the fire, glass picture frames, basically anything dangerous that he's not allowed.

He's having a trike for his birthday, and a rocking horse at Christmas. Was wondering about a cosy coupe.

Yes wires and leads here too, I've moved them all after finding her with a phone charger draped around her neck.

Cosy coupe is a great idea! I forgot they even existed. I seem to have difficulty guessing what she'll like in a few months time as she's developing so quickly, not in a genius way, just amazed at how much she's changed recently.

I picked up a v Tech horse in Sainsbrys this morning but put it back as I wasn't sure. She hated the ridiculously expensive jumperoo so I'm wary of large plastic stuff that takes up space. Also got one of those wooden push trollies with bricks in

Happy land figures, I got a friend's DD them at a similar age and she loved them. Yes at first she chewed them but as she got older she played with them. The fisher price little people is good too.

Blocks, activity cube, train set and ride on.

Hammering bench, shape sorter, the puzzles with wooden peg pieces etc, were all popular here at that stage.

I would have to agree with what has already been said, though, the Cosy Coupe was definitely the best toy at that age (and my almost five year old still plays in it).

Other indoor ride-ins will also be popular, and DS2 lived his scuttlebug from about 15m. By 18months, it was great to take to the park, so that might be another idea.

Ball pit? My older children are very jealous that our youngest gets one this year!

We have a wee bag with things to put in /take out and some bangles for our dd2 who will 14 months. She loves putting things in stuff, things on her arms and my handbag.

I'm getting mine a puky lino bike (it's a cross between a balance bike and a tricycle, made especially for that age)

Other things that they would like at that age are a doll and play stroller, play food that you can cut/pull apart, happy land sets, tea sets, balls. ..

My dc is 1 and obsessed with wheels and doors. Therefore he is getting flap books, round objects (wheel shaped) and cars. Possibly also a packet of baby wipes to remove all the wipes from and it has a little plastic door on it which he likes.

My DD is the same age as yours but has an older sister so we already have a lot of toys. She likes the fisher price bouncing zebra, happyland, toot toot, pushchair and our little duplo table (for climbing in, not building). For Christmas I've got her a little trampoline (the indoor one with a handle), a bright beats dance mat, some toot toot and an activity cube from Sainsbury's. Also, bubbles! Always a winner with tinies.

Big, no enormous cardboard box. Fill it full of balloons. Then turn it into a castle, car, house, cut doors and windows out, if you're not aversive to mess, let them colour it in.

If you can't find a box, you can buy cardboard houses, castles, rockets etc.

We’ve got 20mo DD2 this activity table which was super cheap in the sale. No idea what else she’s getting. Maybe another set of hide-n-squeak eggs (to go with the other two sets we’ve lost half the pieces of). Current favourite toys of hers are her sister’s pushchair, a doll, bubbles and a box from the Ikea kallax.

podge can i ask where you got your trampoline from please? DS spends all day bouncing and ive been saying for ages that I think he'd love a trampoline!

In an uncharacteristic fit of organised-ness I've had DD's Birthday (November) and Christmas presents sorted since July. I can't remember all of it off the top of my head but we got her things like mega blocks (most of the toys are problem solving/creative/activity type things) books and clothes. Her favourite things in the world are the DVD remote (I've taken the batteries out) tables (?) and handbags. She's spent today using the centre bit from her stacking rings as a club. Not in the slightest bit interested in stacking the rings but bashing the middle bit on the floor is hilarious apparently. She's taken quite a shine to Duggee of late so may get a plush or something.

Thank you all so much! You've given me some great ideas. I don't want to overindulge, I doubt she will know what Christmas is but I'm seeing it as a chance to replace the 'baby toys'

My DD is also obsessed with doors recently gummy so I've been trying to find books with big flaps

Lovely idea about a bag with bangles too, I think that will go down well with mine and cheap too which is a bonus. She loves putting things in and out of containers and spent about 30 mins playing with a roll of sellotape the other day

I need to google some of these other things, I've never even heard of happyland!

The melissa and doug latch puzzle is brilliant for wee doors. I just bought a set if Russian dolls yesterday which I think will be a hit.
We did the balloons in a box for ds 1st Xmas which went down really well
