Gift receipts

Does anyone know how early these are offered in the shops.
Or how long you can return goods.
I want to start buying clothes for dh as he has lost so much weight I'm not 100% sure which sizes will fit him as different shops vary with sizes.
I'd much rather buy now than when prices are hyped and/or stock is limited.

Most shops usually start their Christmas extended returns in November. I bought some clothes in the next sale for DH for xmas and I just made him check he liked them and they fit and then put them away for xmas. Totally unromantic and zero surprise element but he's a grown man so it is t like he thinks Santa has brought him surprise stuff.

I bought some clothes last year at the Black Friday weekend at Gap and I think they had the 31 December as return date. M&S had the 15th January on their gift recipe.

Asda had a sign up a few days ago saying anything bought from now was able to be returned until early January (can't remember the exact date).
