How do you do 'santa'

Growing up we had a main present from 'Santa' and the rest were from relatives and we knew who had given what. But for OH Santa brought all the presents from relatives and none actually came from him, like a glorified postman Confused both of us think the others way is weird but we need to get our story straight this year for DS so how does everyone else do it?

The elves make all the presents.

All the presents and stocking are from santa.

Santa does the stocking and the presents from her dad and I (step kids are old enough to. Know but play along) Nd he delivers the presents from everyone else - well those that post them, however dd is told they are from aunty x or uncle z and writes thank you notes... Well she is only just 4 so we wrote them and she draws a picture and writes her name.

Step kids wrote thank you notes for all gifts received at ours but their mum doesn't do this. No idea why but she thinks every one owes her so I am not surprised

Growing up Santa brought the stocking only. But all presents from my parents appeared magically under the tree on Christmas morning.

I find it very interesting to see all the variants as traditionally people hung stockings or put shoes out for little gifts from Father Christmas/Sinterklaas/Santa Claus. It's in the poem The Night Before Christmas which (according to Messrs Google) was written in 1823.

My kids know that presents are brought by us but we give them to santa who decides if they have been good enough to bring them back on Christmas Day.

Father Christmas delivers the presents. We buy them. Don't think ds believes in elves, we have never really pushed the little green fellas.

Ds doesn't get an awful lot of presents from others, mainly us.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 07/10/2017 17:51

Stockings from Father Christmas, everything else as per the label.

Redglitter · 07/10/2017 17:57

Our main/big present was from Santa everything else was from who ever bought it. My best friend at primary school had all her presents from Santa. It confused us both i couldn't figure out why we only got one thing and she got loads & she couldn't understand why her family especially her parents bought her nothing

My brother & SIL have adopted our families way of doing it 😊

Stockings came from 'Santa'; everything else from the actual giver. Surely if the presents from Granny, Uncle Bill etc are all addressed from 'Santa' the kids never say thank you to whoever actually went to the trouble of buying the stuff?
I was also told growing up (and tell my DC the same) that 'Santa' is a make-believe game. It's a fun part of Christmas where someone dresses up as a character for the purpose of giving out gifts. That way you skip the whole "oh my god, he's not real, my parents have been lying to me" drama - because it's only ever been a dress-up game.

Didn't mean to put Santa in inverted commas so many times. Looks very snide - sorry!

I am always amazed by the number of people here who talk about the presents from friends and family being under the tree! I love mumsnet it reminds me of how differently we all do things.
Santa brings all the presents that the parents buy. This will be stocking, main present then about maybe 10 other boxes to open. Literally no other presents in the house at this point.
Then when we go visiting family and friends either Christmas Day or over the next few days they are given and no mention of Santa.
I have never had family pass me presents for the DC before the big day. I never knew it was so common but then we all live pretty close by.

Anything from others was from them, some appeared before Christmas under the tree and some DPs would keep until Christmas Eve night and spirit out after we were in bed. (And some, we would get when we went on Christmas visits after Christmas!).

Santa brought a decent toy and the stockings (which was a load of fruit, 1lb box of sweets, a book and a very few small things to fill it out). Santa still brings the stockings for anyone who sleeps in DPs house that night.

There was always a present from DPs under the tree for each of us DCs. As you grew older, it got bigger and Santa no longer brought a big present. It was often clothes when we were small.

I think DH had quite similar, so we never really had an issue (except that his DPs may not have had something under the tree until Santa no longer visited, and once Santa stopped, he stopped entirely).
