Festive snacks!

Inspired by the moreish snack thread elsewhere on MN, where a few festive snacks appear, what are the snack foods you’re looking forward to this year?

Mini marzipan stollen is in store, and the chocolate heart leibkuchen.

Will DH manage to stay away from mince pies til December?

Have the big tubs of chocs had their day? (Kraft Foods bastards!)

Cheese straws and prosecco for me.

Aldi chocolate Florentines! Saw them in store this morning and my heart dip a little leap remembering the sweet nutty deliciousness from last year Grin

Holding off buying until December as they will just taunt me from the cupboard until Christmas day when i can finally have one box

NoWordForFluffy · 05/10/2017 21:15

I need to buy some liebkuchen. Plus some of those very thin ginger biscuits.

I already have a load of nuts, Pringles, crisps etc, stashed in a cupboard.

We also have a few boxes of M&S biscuits.

I will definitely get cheese straws. Lovely!

MrsMotherHen · 05/10/2017 21:25

Good god no I keep it all at my mother in laws then will get it all christmas eve. My husband would eat the lot.

Loopytiles · 05/10/2017 21:29

What is specculas?

Mention of ginger thins brings to mind the bath oliver biscuits (?): big ginger biscuits in thick, dark chocolates.

Someone on the other thread mentioned Matzo and taramasalata, and those or water biscuits - or a cracker box - with cheese would be fab. I never ever buy posh cheese from a proper, naice cheese shop, and think I should try it once!

On the understanding that my fragile and stroppy intestines (IBS) give me a break Xmas Hmm

Christmas cake (un-iced) with Wendsleydale cheese

Sainsbury Taste the Difference Mini Mince Pies

Chocolate marzipan (dark chocolate)

Pistachio nuts

Savoury crackers (the Aldi ones are nice ) Branstons pickle (common as muck me Xmas Grin ) and strong cheddar

GutterStar · 06/10/2017 07:03

A variety of strong cheeses, some sort of chutney, crackers and the Barry Norman pickled onions from Tesco. That’s my Christmas Eve, once the dc are asleep and F.C. has been. With wine.

Mince pies, obviously. We’re on our third box.

The snacky bits are the best part of Christmas. We have started stocking up with pannetone, chocolates and sweets. It's all in the garage and will stay there until Christmas properly begins.

I can't wait to do a visit to Aldi and Lidl and get their stollen, mince pies, Christmas pud etc. I'm glad we've got a big garage!

NoWordForFluffy · 06/10/2017 07:12

We have a naice cheese shop where we live which sells some amazing stuff. We do tend to get our Christmas cheese from Booths, however, as they do a lovely range.

We get a fair amount of cheese, it has to be said. I love it!

Chocolatecake12 · 06/10/2017 07:57

Lidl’s mini stollen
Cashews and Pringles
Lidl’s mini stollen
Homemade mince pies
Homemade Christmas cake - need to do that next week.......
Did I mention Lidl’s mini stollen?

Jedbartletforpresident · 06/10/2017 09:30

KP Frosted Honey Roasted Nuts - they only come out at Christmas time and are A.MAZE.ING!!!! I bought my first bag in Sainsburys yesterday - they will most definitely not be kept for Christmas - I aim to eat as many as I can before they disappear from the shelves again.

Once M&S bring out their nut roasts I shall be sampling them and if they are as good as the last few years' offerings I will be stocking the freezer to keep me going once they too disappear from the shelves.

Pistachios however can only be bought AT Christmas - my DC would go through a bag a day easily and I can't cope with picking up discarded shells for more than a couple of weeks!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/10/2017 15:48

Chocolate why don't you try the Lidl Mini Stollen, its in stock now Xmas Wink

Ricekrispie22 · 07/10/2017 19:03

Tesco has just brought out Candy Cane flavoured crisps this year. I kid you not.

NoWordForFluffy · 07/10/2017 19:09

They sound grim!

Makemineacabsauv · 07/10/2017 19:34

Aaaaaaahhhhh the Aldi chocolate Florentines.... I buy so many and eat them all far too early! Best part of Christmas!

Annwithnoe · 07/10/2017 20:00

Don't mention the Florentines. They are terrible value because you can't eat just one without suddenly realising that the whole box is empty... again.

demirose87 · 07/10/2017 20:06

mince pies ( really like the Iceland Luxury ones)
cheese footballs
Stollen
Cheese biscuits

millifiori · 07/10/2017 20:11

Really good quality crackers with loads of seeds on them or walnuts in them, with Stilton and grapes...
