Which sewing machine for a 10 year old?

My DD has just started using a sewing machine at school. Current craze over her in Sweden is for girls to make their own hobby horses, so she has asked for a sewing machine.

I have dismissed the kids toys as I she is beyond that and I am looking for something that lasts a little longer. I am looking for an inexpensive, basic grown up one. Does anyone have a clue, I'd really appreciate it.

We bought DD a basic but full size John Lewis one (they are Janome, re-branded, which makes it easy to buy feet etc.) which came in a choice of funky colours. It has been really good and she has used it loads. Not sure that this will work for you in Sweden though. Janome make lots of fairly basic models (about £80 - £100 ish) which might be suitable though. I also have a Janome, and am pleased with mine. Singer also do some basic models in the same price bracket, but I have not used these. Hope your DD enjoys her present.
