Fruit gin/vodka - help needed

Last year I made fruit gin and vodka - mixed the spirit with sugar and fruit, put in kilner jars, turned over the jars everyday for a fortnight to mix, and then left it to steep for a couple of months ready for straining and bottling. And then forgot about it, until I found the jars at the back of the shelf in the pantry today!

So they have been steeping for about a year now.... Those who do fruit gin/vodka regularly, are they OK to strain and drink, do you think? They look OK (no mould or signs of fermentation), but obviously I don't want to make anybody ill.

I have made damson gin, sloe gin and raspberry vodka so perhaps I can help.
I can’t say I have ever forgotten to check the jars for as long as you have though.
If I were you I would strain it anyway, see what it smells like.
I think I would be tempted to try it myself if it smelt ok. If it’s ok I would keep it all to myself to warm me up on cold nights in and enjoy!
Good luck!

I have kept them for a few years. Have quince gin that is currently 2 years old, ready for this Christmas. It's all good, the alcohol is a préservant.
Strain the fruit (use for boozy jam, if you are very thrifty) and...
Enjoy!

They are better the longer you leave them so yay forgotten supplies are even better than this years batch.
I have a 4year old plum brandy that is seriously awesome it's like heaven in a bottle - DH is eeking it out as he says this years will be too young.
The only exception to this is strawberry gin which seems to be best at about 3wks as the colour is awesome but it's still very drinkable after that.
Enjoy!

I've made Sloe Gin and Christmas Pudding Vodka today. Naturally it's meant I fancied a wee tipple. At the back of the cupboard I found a couple of inches left in a bottle made in 2003! Tasted OK but 2015's is better 😉

Perfect! I will investigate and give them a go. I love the idea of boozy jam with the fruit! Have some 4 year old raspberry gin left (which was strained at the right time) and it is delicious! Fingers crossed this will be as good.
