Hi Dd1 is into Manga/anime so after a few ideas on that. If there's any dedicated websites?
Also I think she'd like a contouring makeup set, but I never wear make up so totally useless on what to get. She's quite pale skinned.

Thanks :)

An ex boyfriends little sister had the same interests! One year i got her one of the Gwen Stefani perfumes - they are super cute she loved it. She was pretty young - I think about 12 or 13

DontOpenDeadInside · 16/09/2017 09:27

Oh wow, she'll love one of those. This is why I live MN, didn't even know these existed.

forbidden planet is good for manga / anime stuff. Also goes along with interest in anything Japanese with my dc, so online kawaii shops are good too. A selection of Japanese sweets went down well last year.

There are manga subscription services she might like. VIZ do a shonen jump subscription. You can also get a anime and manga via crunchyroll.

ArbitraryName · 16/09/2017 09:37

crunchyroll manga. I think the premium service is about £5 a month.

DontOpenDeadInside · 16/09/2017 09:41

Forgot to mention, she likes cosplay and candles too and she's 13 (almost 14 at Christmas)

Thanks for the suggestions. A subscription sounds great too.

Why not get her a full collection (or a chunk of a collection - they can be huge!) of a manga she likes? We used to do this for DD when she was younger - you can buy a couple a week in the run-up so no huge outlay. Makes a very impressive present too.

Websites like Tokyo Toys do mail order, and you can get some fab t shirts and bits from places like Redbubble.

Yy to the Gwen Stefani perfumes - DD had the whole set!

For stocking fillers Primark now do Tokidoki stationery which is the same sort of cute Japanese theme. And blippo.com is brilliant website which does really inexpensive little kawaii bits that you won't find on the high street.

As far as make up goes, you can't go wrong with L'oreal Manga Eyes mascara Xmas Grin

DontOpenDeadInside · 16/09/2017 09:55

She kind of chops and changes which ones she likes. (And tbh i zone out when she talks about it lol). I think she was into Death note and Attack On Titans. Where do you buy manga? I know Weatherstones do the books, but she'd like the actual comics I think. (If you can get them?)

DontOpenDeadInside · 16/09/2017 09:57

So I'm thinking they are like the comics you see on The Big Bang Theory, they're probably not are they? Are they more like books?

Yes they're like flimsy paperback books which you read from back to front. DD had the whole Death Note series in perfect condition but she gave them away recently, or I'd gladly have sent them to you!

Waterstones do them and sometimes they're on 2 for 3, but I always got them from Amazon. They were cheaper and if you buy two it's usually over a tenner so free postage.

ArbitraryName · 16/09/2017 10:09

But manga on Amazon. It's cheaper.

Manga publishing is periodical. So most series are published weekly or monthly chapters in magazines. Later on chapters are collected into books (you can buy them in Waterstones too). Series can have many, many volumes of these 'graphic novel editions' (as the English language publishers call them).

If she's chopping and changing, you might want to get her a subscription. Death note was published in Weekly Shonen Jump but is finished now. You can buy nice box sets of all the volumes. She might like other shonen jump series too. DS thoroughly recommends Assassination Classroom.

I'd get her Fullmetal Alchemist. It's another finished series that's great (it was published monthly). It's got some great female characters in it and the mangaka (a woman) often mocks the really embarrassing fan service you get in much shonen manga (so instead of huge breasted women in skimpy clothing, she produces ridiculous male characters who are stupidly muscular and insist on showing off their chests at every opportunity).

ArbitraryName · 16/09/2017 10:12

It's difficult to get the weekly/monthly anthology magazines in English. You can get digital copies of shonen jump in translation - that's what their subscription is for. They come out a few days after the Japanese edition. There used to be a paper magazine too in English but the delay in translated publication meant that lots of people read fan scanlations instead. So the industry have moved to near simultaneous publication in translation as digital copies.

Puffpaw · 16/09/2017 10:22

How about branching slightly away from actual manga to manga related? This book is fascinating

IStoleThisUsername · 16/09/2017 10:35

Pop! Vinyls are a hit with my 13 almost 14 year old anime obsessed dd.

Waterstones for books (they have a huge section)

Amazon for how to draw manga books and cheap cosplay

One thing my dd loves to do is draw anime/manga so last year I bought her a light box £35 from argos and she uses it everyday.

LadyTsunade · 16/09/2017 14:42

I literary joined Mumsnet to answer this thread instead of lurking 😂 I'm a massive Manga mom and my two dds are following in my footsteps so proud.
If she's into AOT, Amazon sell the Colossal edition omnibus' which are Very nice and cheaper then FP. I'd also recommend One Piece, Naruto, and Tokyo Ghoul if youre after new Manga for her. Also the comics you mentioned are only available in the UK as the Tankobon (the back-to-front books).
Does She Like studio Ghibli Movies? If So, Totoro/spirited Away Merch Is Quite Cool And Easy To Find.

Speaking Of Death Note, I Got My Hands On A Mahoosive Promotional Poster Of L That Forbidden Planet usef In Their Shop Window, So Always Worth Asking In There For Freebies If You Have The space for it 😂

BeyondThePage · 16/09/2017 14:48

If it is not just Manga but all things Japan, then a subscription to Tokyo treat went down well with DD16.

DontOpenDeadInside · 21/09/2017 07:28

I've been able to get 5 of the Gwen Stefani harajuku perfumes for £23 on eBay. She'll love them so thanks for the suggestion. Also going to buy her some Japanese sweets and maybe the Crunchy roll subscription and I'm going to check out some of the websites mentioned.

What about makeup, what's the best value for money contouring kit?

OP posts:
Christmastree43 · 21/09/2017 16:45

Aww, hope she loves them OP! Contouring kits I know nothing about 😔

Notsure1234 · 21/09/2017 16:59

Dsis has similar interests and last year dm put Ramune Soda drinks in her stocking which went down well
