Just looking for recommendations for a tablet (not iPad too expensive) for youngish children (8 and a 4 year old) mainly for games and YouTube, memory doesn't have to be massive but enough so we can download prorgrammes on iplayer.
Have looked at the samsung tab and amazon fire but a bit torn

We got.my dds the Amazon fire tablets last year after much advice and they are perfect for younger kids

My kids have kindle fire tablets. The kids can download so much free stuff but it has to go via my account.. Child locks etc. And when my son smashed the screen, they replaced and switched all of his games to the new one free of charge.

Do you have the new version with Built in Alexa? If so can you turn Alexa off?

Amazon fire with kids protective cover, we've got 2 for a 3 & 4 year old... had them 2 years. Been thrown down the stairs, trodden on and all sorts and still work perfectly Smile

Another vote for kindle fire. We got it cheaper on black Friday. We also didnt bother paying extra for the kids one and bought a cheap case from amazon. Its a bit clunky for me compared to the iPad but suits DC fine for YouTube and ceebeebies games.

Hey @roundandroundtheapartment I would definetly recommend the Amazon Fire. We bought one for our daughter last year,.and it is used for apps (Ceebeebies etc) and YouTube. We bought the 16gb one for £50 from John Lewis, and it came with a two year guarantee. We recently noticed the charging point had bent inside so took it back to JL on Sunday expecting it to be repaired. Within 5 minutes we were given a brand new generation 7 tablet, with a new two year guarantee so the aftercare was superb. Luckily, all of the apps we had previously purchased were linked to our amazon account so we have redownloaded them all onto the new tablet. Could not fault it in any way. Also, in answer to your question,.yes the new generation 7 fire comes with Alexa. It is automatically blocked once you turn parental controls on x

Amazon Kindle fire vote here too. I got one nominally for DS to use in place of my iPad because he cracked the screen, again . Bought it on on Amazon Prime Day not long ago for a bargain £30! He's yet to use it though as the iPad still works, and I love the Kindle Fire too much to hand it over!
It's possible to add the Google play store in order to access all the apps that Android phones can (just Google how to do it). I found the Amazon App Store a bit restrictive.

Amazon Fire for Kids vote here. Brilliant for our 4yo, now 5yo and can be as restricted (or unrestricted) as you wantand includes turning on and off times, maximum screen time, minimum amount of 'learning time' before free time etc etc Also comes with good robust rubber cover just in case!
