Which console for an 8 year old?

Hi all, well we're in the -ber months - not long to go now!

My son will be 8 at Christmas and is desperate for a games console. Well (hopefully!) be moving house before then so will have the room to let him have one. Any ideas what would be best? He's asking for a PS4, but I don't know why that would be better than say an Xbox One, if it would?! He likes Lego games, Minecraft, Mario.

Any help is greatly received, especially if there's bargains to be had for one! Thanks all

I would heck what his friends have, that way he can play with them online. No good, if he has a PS4 and all of his friends are chatting online on an x box

I think Mario games are only compatible with Nintendo consoles, so if he particularly wants to play them he will need either a wii or a Nintendo switch.

My DS has a PS4 and can chat to most of his friends but he would happily sell his Grandma to have a Switch too. It does look good from the adverts as it can be used connected to the tv and also as a mobile console.

I agree check what his friend shave so they can link up

Ooh, hadn't even thought of a Switch - more to ponder! I'll have a chat with his friends mums when back at school next week. Thanks for the advice, wouldn't have thought of that either! (Insert useless emoticon here)

The switch is more child friendly but I don't think it has any lego games and the choices are very limited (and pricey!). The plus is that is can be handheld as well so more portable.

The PS4 has much more choice of games and you can get a lot of the Lego games preowned fairly cheap however as previous posts said you wouldn't get mario games on it.
