When does Christmas 'start' in London??

Will be visiting London this Halloween,( from Ireland, ) for few days and am wondering if shops etc will be in full Festive mode ?? Dont want to hype kids up too much (as I know its early), if Christmas displays wont be up . In Ireland, where I live , we go into full Festive mode after Halloween .Also, any must see displays or stores ??

Harrods had a small selection of decorations in on Saturday for 2017. Their Grotto opens 17 November so I'd imagine they would be Christmassy before then.

And I think Liberty had their Christmas department open end of September last year.

They turn the light on beginning of October although some of the shops will have Christmas stuff in before .

I think that the central light switch on is just after Remembrance Day so the shops on Oxford and Regent Street have their window displays up by then. I think you'll be ok at Halloween.

There will be some signs of Christmassy stuff by then.

But there's a balancing act between trying to flog Christmas stuff early (before your competitors have put theirs out) and the resistance from consumers to 'starting too early'

Plus Hallowe'en is an ever increasing opportunity to flog stuff, and then there's still Guy Fawkes and Remembrance Day in the offing - after which it really ramps up.

Winter wonderland in Hyde park opens Nov 17. I loved it and got loads of Christmas presents from the market in there, but I am a sucker for twee.

Selfridges have their Christmas department up and running already. It was officially opened in July!
