Has anyone bought items from Amazon.com. Just wondering if there would be any cost aside from shipping? Like customs tax etc.?

Currency conversion. I got stung with this. £15 per transaction my
Bank charged

Yes.
Import VAT is payable on anything over £15, this is usually 20% of the total (lower rates apply to some items) but you also get charged a handling fee from whoever delivers the item, if it is Royal Mail it is about £8 I think, couriers tend to be a little more.
If the item is over £135 you have to pay Customs Duty which is 2.5%. I'm not sure if there would be an additional handling fee for this.

Basically if you're buying something relatively cheap you can really get stung due to the handling fee size.

Sometimes on Amazon.com they give you an option to prepay all the duties and taxes up front.

Thanks both. Just checked & the it gives me the option to order the item in GPB and gives me a price for shipping & handling and estimated tax to be collect is given as 0.00GBP. Do you think I'll only have to pay what Amazon quotes?

It's one of
Those. I think unless it's a must have toy that you
Can't
Get in the uk at all (hatchimal last year) then it's worth it

Otherwise it's
Not

I really had no problems with ordering from .com. I ordered in GBP like it gives you the option to and all I paid was the price that came up at checkout. It was only a small value item (~£30) but I didn't have any extra charges appear on my account or have to pay extra to Royal Mail/customs etc.
