Hi all

Dd will be 3 just weeks before Christmas and I am struggling with ideas to get her. I want to start asap to spread the cost.

I want to get her some learning or educational toys - any recommendations on the leap pad tabs etc.?

She is also a massive Paw Patrol fan and loves pretend play

Balance bike or bike with stabilisers
Trampoline
Dressing up clothes (our specific request was a Mr Bloom costume!)
Coloured pens, paints and chalks

When dd was 3 she loved small world play so we got Sylvanian families and playmobil for her. She has also loved crafts and drawing so her favourite gift of all time has been a craft box filled with stickers, googly eyes, foil, pipecleaners, coloured paper, glue and tape, sequins etc. She sits for hours and creates models and pictures. Since she started school.she has used the kit to make cards and write little love notes to her friends. Her best gift ever (although I recommend investing in a decent wipeable table cover at the same time!)

Thanks for all the ideas everyone

I ordered a balance bike that converts to a training bike with stabilisers
And a Paw Patrol house from Santa along with a few other wee bits

And a Leap Pad learning tablet for her main birthday present.

I am feeling ridiculously Christmassy tonight and want to watch Home Alone 😂

My 3yo got a Vtech Kiddizoom last Christmas and still uses it almost daily, we get some good laughs with the photos too :o

If you want educational toys have a look on learning resources they're toys are really good quality and often have 3 or 4 different ways to play depending on age/development stage etc so often grow with the child. My dd has a lot from them and is having more for Christmas and birthday

So far we've bought

Primary science set
Measurement beakers
Microscope
Globe

Code and go mouse

She's also got a wooden fort from family with accessories and some other things from else where

This is slightly off topic.... but if your child gets on well with the balance bike, please don't put stabilisers on a bike with pedals. It will set her back. My son went from a balance bike which he used for a year to a pedal bike. It took 10 minutes in a grassy park to make the transition.

junglebookisthebest · 07/08/2017 21:34

Mmgirish - not necessarily true. I recommended both because my kid has both and has done really well and quickly learnt to ride properly. The balance bike is fantastic for obviously balance. But its drawbacks were that the small wheels just didn't get up to really fast speeds and the ride height meant she kept using her feet to slow down not the brakes. She became comfortable with high speed and the proper use of brakes using the stabiliser bike. So when we took the stabilisers off she took to it instantly. She hasn't fallen off at all and is straightaway able to travel good distances with the rest of the family.

Good point about the brakes there. It took my son a wee while to get used to them. It's just that I see loads of friends put their kids on stabilisers after balance bikes and then the children get overly reliant on them and end up using them for years.

My dd is 3 end of September and she loves figure, I have picked up lots of those little blind packs for few pound each for her stocking (paw patrol, tsum tsum, princess, shopkins etc)

She also loves pretend play and loves her till I brought her last week along with her older sisters wooden doll house I grafted out the loft recently
