Bath at Christmas

I'm desperate for a child free night away with DH (it would be our first in four years since DS was born) and have got my heart set on a night in Bath to go to the Christmas market and the roman spa and out for an adult dinner with no children eating half my food.

Has anyone been? Is it amazing and lovely? It is worth continuing to dream about?

Bath's got some great hotels and restaurants so perfect for that kind of trip. I went shopping in the Christmas market last year and was somewhat underwhelmed - huge crowds. It was a Saturday though so if you can manage midweek it would be better.

Love Bath at Christmas although agree with pp if you can do midweek it is a lot less stressful. Dukes Hotel (really a b&b) is great as walking distance so you can return with all your purchases at various intervals during the day and you get free parking!
If you go book restaurant for the evening in plenty of time as they do get booked up Sotto Sotto is good.

The Spa is fab. Especially the rooftop pool at night. There's a great view of the city.

Are you sure the market is open during the week? I thought it was only weekends.

The market is open weekdays, but it finished mid December, so check dates before you book.
Spa is fantastic, especially at night.

Bath is really lovely, particularity if you walka little way out of the centre up beyond Marlborough to Landsown and drool at the gorgeous Georgian architecture.

The weekend is so badly crowded that it is difficult to look at anything as you get swept into the crowd. As previously suggested go midweek. The thermea spa offer a decent twillight offer midweek that usually includes entry, a light supper and a glass of bubbly.
It is a lovely experience. Every year i complain about the crowds then return the next!

Bath is lovely but gets very busy during the Christmas markets. Book now if you can as it gets booked up really far in advance. Also, do the Roman baths early as it just gets busier and busier throughout the day. Do the spa on a weekday if possible as queues for that also get ridiculous, you can't book this unless you book treatments in advance.

Bath is amazing and the spa is lovely. Christmas market not that great so I'd focus on pampering and food instead. Have a lovely time.

Thanks for all the advice. I was thinking of going 1/2 December so a Friday/Saturday. Would the Friday be awful in the market?
I was thinking of the rooftop spa at 5 (although I didn't realise you couldn't book) then sotto sotto afterwards for a long, child free, wine accompanied dinner.

Oh, and I'm eyeing up the bailbrook house hotel which looks lovely.

All just a pipe dream at the moment as, for some reason, nobody is over keen to have my very lovely but non sleeping children.....I'm working on it (the sleeping and the persuading anyone....anyone to have them!!)
