Kindle Fire from Santa - set up tips?

My scare getting a kindle fire from Santa. I haven't set it up yet, put plan to put parental controls (and freetime?) on it.

Should I set up another Amazon account for it, or just use mine? I read somewhere about their child being able to see their Amazon purchase history, which would kill Santa in one fell swoop! Any other tips? Thanks!

I'd set up so they can play straight away. Link it to your account, much easier, then make a child account and the child won't be able to access your history. You can then select which of your books, apps etc the child can access

Sofa - us too usually, but the selection of things being given this year's just means that kindles are the least tricky to come from Santa! (And were on the list...)

IAmA - that sounds like what I need, thanks. So I can link it to my account for purchasing apps etc in advance, then create a kids layer- is it just like setting up a profile? Not had a kindle before.

My dd and I share a kindle fire. She is 4. There is a PIN protected account for me and a kids' profile which she can access which has the children's books, apps, videos and limited Web access but she can't access the shopping or my payment details. I set her up with 'fire for kids' which is £1.99 a month and means she can access all the children's content for free. I also set it up so she does 15 minutes of reading before the other content works, and put time limits on the rest of the content. It's fab, took me about an hour with all the updates etc so definitely do it before Christmas Smile

I set my kids up with their own amazon account each when I got theirs. My mum and other family then put vouchers onto their accounts when it's birthdays/xmas so they can order their own presents and pick what they like. They're 12 and 13 though so might not work well with younger kids.

Yes nonono so when you link it to your account you will be able to access anything you have bought such as ebooks through Amazon. Then you set up a kids profile on the tablet and you can select what they can access. Amazon itself also has a YouTube type bit on the kids profiles which filters internet videos according to the age of the child so you can. If you want have then unable to access internet browsers but able to see age appropriate videos. For the internet you can also have them able to access a browser but only see sites you have selected so for example you could allow bbc so they can use their tablet to access bbc bite size for homework without wondering what else's they will google! Kids profiles can be time restricted too so they can't get on overnight and you can limit time spent on games while allowing unlimited reading. Quite useful really.

Sofa I think it's irrelevant whether Santa brings electronic items or not - I think the point is that if any item has been purchased from Amazon the op is worried whether the child could see it i.e. A book for a stocking.

Mine also have kindle fires for Christmas. I have set them up already and am glad I did as the free time apps take a while to download to the carousel.
However can someone tell me if there is a way that the child can go straight to their own screen when it's turned on? It keeps going back to the parent screen and I have to keep putting the password in

I've used my account for both, set up 2 separate child profiles and upgraded to the multi free time package so they both have access to all the apps etc
