Both of my DD's love 'designer a friend' and Barbie type dolls. The eldest is 11- almost 12 the youngest is 8- almost 9.

I've reserved the Barbie house at Argos ( half price, boom!) and I know they'll love it.. But I'm having a wobble. None of dd1's friends will get anything remotely toy like from what I can gather. I know they'll love it, but part of me thinks it's odd to be buying an almost 12 year old a Barbie house??.
It'd be a joint present.

( and I know I shouldn't worry about what others think, but I am)

Anyone thoughts? Just to add Dd1 has lots of tech so she's not completely babied like one cow at work said.

You know her best. If she will enjoy it, get it! Everyone is different and it doesn't matter what other children are getting, imo.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 08/12/2016 18:38

Thanks serial I know I know but then I feel like I'm doing her a disservice or something. They will love it as will I. It's got a swimming pool and everything! Smile

Don't wobble,it sounds like she will love it,and having a younger sister to play with it sounds great.
It will be the start if the end if the dolls and toys so enjoy Xmas Smile

I think you have to be careful. Will she have presents she can talk about when she goes back to school in January?

SendARavenToRiverRun · 08/12/2016 20:05

Yup lots of more 'grown-up' gadgets. Makeup clothes etc.
To be fair she's not really bothered what others think. She has a lovely group of friends who I'm sure secretly play barbie and stuff.
I can't wait to get my hands on it!

I wouldn't wobble at all. If you know she'll love it then let her enjoy her last little bit of childhood. You're a lovely mum!
I clearly remember [ fifty years on] my mother taking my beautiful baby doll away from me when I was 11 as she thought that I should have grown out of it. I was devastated.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 08/12/2016 23:04

Thanks gran. Poor you having your doll taken Sad.
11 is such a funny age. I know she'll love it.

My dd is 13 in February and still plays with her barbies/dolls house. When people pull a face when I mention it, I just say, it beats her hanging round on street corners swigging white lightning (what kids did when I was young-not me, I'm a good girl ;) )

SendARavenToRiverRun · 09/12/2016 10:22

Thanks dontopen good point! She's a nice mix of grown-up and childish, I'll encourage it at the moment I think. Smile

I was still playing with barbies as a teenager, if she'll enjoy it then get it. Xxx

Foxsox · 10/12/2016 09:38

Wow! If only more pre teens were still playing, life would be simpler.
I think your family sound lovely, what a lovely girl you have and a lovely mum you are.
Enjoy these moments and ignore the people who say otherwise.
I think you have a nice balance x

FrogletinaBallerina · 10/12/2016 09:41

If it's the Barbie house with the pool & three Barbies it will get lots of play. I bought that one for my 7 yo DD and even 30 something me has had a play with it.

Have you picked it up yet? Word of warning - the box is massive!!!! We have a 4x4 and it took up the whole back even with the seats lay down!

JellyWitch · 10/12/2016 09:42

I had a new doll and sylvsnian families at 11, nearly 12. I was still into that sort of thing for another year or so and have a 5 years younger sister so still played with kid toys well into my teens! If she's still into barbie then don't worry!

HairyScaryMonster · 11/12/2016 08:46

Well she can always say it's her sisters if friends scoff. I'm sure she'll love it

SendARavenToRiverRun · 11/12/2016 22:26

Thanks guys! Collection is tomorrow Smile. I have a small car.. Collection should be fun! I'm hoping they let me sort delivery in store if it doesn't fit!

I was given the Sindy house with the lift at the side when I was in year 6(or J4 as it was then). I absolutely loved it, but remember being embarrassed in school when the teacher went round asking what we all had. Stupid really, as all my friends loved it too.
