I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned on here, but thought I might mention the idea of the reverse advent calendar.
Starting on December 1st, your child does not just open their own Advent calendar. They also add a food item to a box which is donated to a food bank collection service (found in most supermarkets) just before Christmas.

That's a nice idea.

I think that's a very sweet idea

We did this through November - so we could drop it off to the foodbank at the beginning of December. The boys really enjoyed it. I wrapped up 30 items and numbered them for them to unwrap. We included toiletries and nappies as they are often in demand but not often donated.
