I made 1 1/2 kilos of caramelised onion chutney at the beginning of the month, expecting it to last for months and months. Today I found an empty jar in the sink Shock Grin - the bugger has been eating it neat with a spoon, it seems, as the cheese hasn't reduced at the same rate!

Back to the stovetop...

mumonashoestring · 29/11/2016 10:53

LTB and move in with me.

And my spoon Grin

peaceloveandbiscuits · 29/11/2016 11:19

I'm not even mad, I'm impressed

User543212345 · 29/11/2016 11:34

He has presented a defence that it saved him from eating all the cheese (he's trying to shift a bit of weight at the moment). I'm not sure that he's forgiven just yet though - there needs to be something in it for me aside from a house that smells of vinegar!

Surely he makes the next batch?!

WhatHaveIFound · 29/11/2016 11:37

Don't LTB. Just make him peel & chop the onions for the next (bigger) batch!

jojomii26 · 02/12/2016 00:22

OMG the title made me giggle.....had visions of coming home to a slobbed out DH on the sofa, surrounded by empty chutney jars and feeling food drunk Xmas Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 02/12/2016 00:29

I once ate 3 jars of Patak's lime pickle in a week, but I'm more impressed by your DH.

And can you give us the recipe, please?

SecretNutellaFix · 02/12/2016 00:29

You need to buy a safe with a PIN lock and store the next batch on there!

User543212345 · 02/12/2016 07:53

He's already started on the new batch Xmas Grin

scrambled it's so easy to make.
1kg red onions
500g (ish) of sugar - I use whatever is to hand so this lot has some dark brown sugar leftover from the Christmas cake as well as caster
Black pepper
700ml (ish) vinegar

Chop onions, bung everything into pot, bring to boil, simmer until gloopy.

He's trying to lose weight so he's been scoffing sugary boiled onions? 😂

User543212345 · 02/12/2016 08:04

It's working valium -possibly because he was eating sugary boiled onions with cheese before...

Yum, thank you!

He could patent that diet - people have eaten weirder things and lost weight. I used to work with a woman whose interpretation of Atkins was polish sausages and cheese. It worked Shock

ScrambledSmegs · 02/12/2016 09:25

Ahem. That's Polish sausages, polish sounds revolting.

pklme · 02/12/2016 21:26

Don't want to derail the thread but I think they are polish sausages. However, the sausages are Polish. Couldn't swear to it though, we need a tefl tesl teacher or a pedant from pedants' corner...
