M&S record-a-message biscuit tin

Anyone had any luck recording a message? The instructions say press until you hear a single beep, then record it, then you hear two beeps when the time is up. I just hear three beeps and nothing happens. Bought two tins and they both do (or rather don't) the same thing... ?

Are you me?! I had the same and had to go in for help...
You have to keep holding the button down whilst you record. Let it go when you're done or wait for the second beep.

I'm pleased it's not just me, the instructions aren't that clear.
