What does everyone do NYE?

This will be my first child free NYE in 16 years! And me and dh do not have a clue what to do.
Do people our age (40 do anything special NYE). Even when the kids are around we have never really done much.

Pre dc I went out NYE and usually hated it back then (too busy, too expensive, but pointless, over hyped etc).

Are we just boring? I mean are we the only ones (with our without dc) that doesn't do much NYE?

We go round all the neighbours houses and each one makes different food!

We have a night in with friends. Either they come to ours or we go to theirs. We put the children to bed, sometimes we let them watch a film and stay up a bit later.
We cook a nice dinner, 3 courses and guests bring the pudding to make it less work for the hosts. Drink, sometimes play a board game, see in the New Year. Stay over. It's always a lovely evening.

We used to do family party but they got very boring and small over the years, last year convinced a friend to do new year party as combined new year and house warming and this year another friend has volunteered so we are sorted but going forward not sure what we will be doing on a regular basis.

I can see if this year is a good laugh with just the small group of friends that we will probably just keep alternating between us each year as the alternative for most of us would be staying in if we didn't make the effort

We are not child free but child ages within our group are between 10 and 13 so they are all plenty capable of partying with us for new year or finding a quiet corner to nod off if they have had enough before its time to go

We start at friends house and each do a course. Some one does starter, then main and finish at someone's for pudding. Games - pieface was a hit last year - and then fireworks.

We make an indian meal, pre dc we would eat it in evening wear. Then we watch tv, maybe play a board game and at midnight we go outside and watch evrryone elses fireworks.

Go to bed as normal, get up and go watch the sunrise at the beach and then go out for breakfast

DH and I usually go out for an early boozy dinner and rarely see midnight... and we have no kids

Bed by 10, can't be arsed either.

We always have a party here - sometimes lots of friends come and sometimes only a couple and all bring their kids. The kids tend to hang out in the living room and play games and the adults are in the kitchen diner drinking and eating. Then we all celebrate at midnight and most people leave soon after. It's much more fun than going out in the cold and dealing with a busy bar or restaurant.

Dance club does the best NYE parties ever. Take some lessons and then join in with whatever they plan for NYE. Enjoy!

This year, I'll be doing a night shift.

If I'm home, I'd be in bed by 10:30, Dh and the dses stay up.

I really dislike New Years, it makes me feel pressured and grumpy. My best new year in r can't years was when I was Marathon training and I got up early New Year's Day and went for a long run, It was so peaceful and quiet.

Really quiet here - we either go out for an early dinner (last year was tapas) or get lots of nice food in at home. We always have champagne at midnight and go outside to watch the fireworks.

Once when we'd had a particularly crap year we watched Stephen King's Misery and went to bed at 11pm.

I find it to be the ultimate anti climax
We always go out for a fabulous lunch on NY day, i much prefer it!

Normally go to a friends place she normally does a theme byt this year me n dp and a friend n her fella are going to london to watch the fireworks

Not quite 40 yet and up found out I was expecting dc1 for tears who on new years eve. Most years went to a local bar with live music. Wasn't great but better than staying in. When I met dh we would go to a hotel for the night or local pub. Since DC 1&2 arrived we have stayed in. I cook a nice meal and we have wine

We have several families round here from about 4pm. Kids are fairly young so everyone tends to leave about 10pm and go home to bed! It's a nice celebration with no pressure to stay up until midnight.

Bugger all. Hate NYE. Always feel low, for no real reason.

Might go to pub early doors then a Chinese and asleep by 11pm.

Last year DP and I went to a cottage in north Wales for a few days with the dog. It peed it down the whole time but we did have a lovely time, NYE itself we just went for a walk, stopped at the pub for a drink on way back to cottage, got back about 7 and just ate/drank/played cards and then watched other people's fireworks over the valley at midnight. That was really lovely.

This year we'll be going to stay with my sister and her family, as we won't be seeing them at Christmas. It'll be much the same, long walk with the dogs in the day, take away and few drinks in the evening, I predict we'll be in pjs by about 9.30.

I mostly just get excited about a new Sherlock to be honest!

We are staying at a friend's house with a few other couples. Dogs, friends and champagne. It will be super but my head will suffer the next day.
