Get together ideas

We want to do a Christmas get together before Christmas ideally. We did use to do xmas night out and meal out but as more of us have children finding a night we can all do has become impossible.
I was thinking of suggesting this year we do a Christmas Day thing with the kids.
We have a mixture of friends with and with out children. The children range in age from 1 and 1/2 to 11.
Trying to think of ideas of what we could do. We could host at home or go somewhere but I'm struggling to think of something that will entertain all and keep it low cost (it is nearly Christmas )
Any one got any ideas?

Go to town and all enjoy the Christmas lights?

Could you host an open house party at yours?
Film on for the kids or consoles etc? You could do a couple of easy party games - pass the parcel? Or board games?
This keeps it easy for parents with younger ones who might not be able to stay late and nice for those without children too.
Get people to bring a bottle etc and do nibbles and maybe something easy like pizzas and salad or order in? That would make it nice for the hosts too!
