Is a spice rack a rubbish present?

He likes cooking, and I'm sick of the (many!) spices being unorganised in the cupboard. It wouldn't be the only present, it'd be along with 'fun' stuff - he wants some xbox games, and some star wars bits. This is for my OH, but realise I sound like I'm buying from a child....

And some pants and socks?

I wouldn't want a present of anything that I'd be expected to put on my wall - I want to choose what goes on my wall.

To me, that's a household item that would just get bought when needed. Not a present.
I'd be a bit miffed if dp saw a spice rack as a present for me!

If the spice rack fits in the cupboard, that's better than one on display, both for the spices and also keeping the workspace clear. It sounds as if it might be as much for your benefit as his though, so could it be a joint present if anyone asks what you'd like?

I really want the Joseph Joseph one- they have some good kitchen gadgets as well, some are on sale in TK Maxx.

I wouldn't be very pleased with a spice rack. 1) I like to keep everything hidden in cupboards and 2) it's a boring household thing. It's the sort of thing you buy because you want one, not as a treat for someone else.

Sainsbury's have recently made their spice jars fatter so they won't fit on my spice rack anymore, which is an absolute pain (ditto their cereal boxes. What's with that, hmm?). So I wouldn't want one as it might be useless.

A friend bought me one for Christmas last year. She always buys some kind of household item at Christmas and I always think they're rather boring presents (and I sound like a really ungrateful cow don't I) and would never buy something like that for anyone. If I'm buying a present for someone then I want it to be something lovely, a treat.
Said spice rack is now in the shared kitchen in the university halls where my oldest lives.

We do live together, but are looking to buy our own house in the next 18 months hopefully and don't really have that much stuff to go in it.

I think I'm just struggling with ideas, but he loved buying kitcheny things - we can't go into TK maxx without him picking something up - but I can see that it really is something for the both of us. In saying that, sole xmas present for me last year was an Orla Kiely duvet which we both use, so maybe I'm unconsciously seeking revenge haha

I think it's fine if he loves cooking and it's not the only present. You could source some really interesting spices and fill the jars.

I actually hate getting household items as personal presents but this year I am asking for a Mason & Cash mixing bowl. I have coveted one of these for years and am a keen baker so in that context I would say it will be a lovely gift for him.

Personally I would love it. In fact it was on my Christmas list last year.
(I didn't get it, but my Mum&dad did buy me a Henry Hoover)
