Both dds are now over 18, but still want presents rather than cash/vouchers.

So:
Ideas for gifts that are useful but interesting to receive, please? Other than the obvious jumper/undies/smellies/books?

Last year mine all got a bottle of naice spirits and some socks.
Don't knock the socks, the DC all reckon I buy them much better quality ones than they bother to get themselves.
They tend to buy each other exotic chocolate bars.

What do they like? Dd needs hairstraightners this year so she is getting those dd1 not a clue she was talking about going on a spa day with her friend so might get her that last year she got stuff relating to her new job kit bag a torch . In the past i have bought tickets for shows so they seemed to like that they like converse so usually get a pair of those, Its really hard though especially if they have their own money to get the stuff they want.

I remember on year my stepmum bought all three of us a cardboard Ikea storage box and filled it with useful pieces. The moisturiser, cleanser , shampoo, etc she knew we liked, nice socks, book, big bar of chocolate, bottle of something nice, etc. I think i was about 20. One of the best pressies I've had for Xmas.

I do gift bags for my Dds filled with make up soap and glory stuff and bits and bobs goes down well.

They always get 'smellies' in their stockings, and dd1 likes getting an 'expensive' makeup item (last year it was Urban Decay Naked palette and this year she wants some Benefit stuff).

Yes to socks too!

Bottle of nice spirits a v good idea. One year we got dd1 36 cans of Coke in a huge box - that went down well, and looked quite exciting wrapped up!

5 adult DDs here. All come home for Christmas. Mine still have a stocking [which I love doing] and I agree that beyond that , presents are difficult when they all seem to buy what they need when they want it nowadays.
Last year I did themed hampers which went down really well and I have been asked to do it again this year.
So, for example I did an Italian hamper for one daughter who loves Italian food including posh pasta, Carluccio sauces, recipe book, bottle of Prosecco - you get the gist. Another travels a lot so she got some Lonely Planet books, filter water bottle, travel first aid kit, travel minis in a nice toiletry bag etc.
I have to do it on a theme otherwise it just seems like another stocking if you see what I mean.

Theme idea a v good one ('erm' to which themes though!).

This year DD asked for a silver ring from pandora. She also has a chunky cardigan, pajamas, she will get some decent makeup. Last year she got the m&s advent calendar and this year I might get it again but wrap it up for Christmas as it was such good value.

Other Years I have bought a good hairdryer, curlers or straighteners. Theatre tickets, decent perfume, a good quality blanket.

Asos does a good quality mermaid blanket which seems to be quite popular this year.

Cineworld usually does a good value christmas box which includes 2 tickets and vouchers for snacks & drinks.

They don't want vouchers, although we often get them a Pizza Express/Starbucks voucher etc for their stocking.

We have paid for our two girls to go away......literally
23 year old is going on a mini cruise to Amsterdam and 19 year old is going to Center Parcs.
They still want stockings and Christmas Eve pjs, I don't intend to buy them much else.

Okaaaay. Erm...why?!

Actually my 21 year old might rather like that (she is a loon).

Oh I'm going to make vouchers for my 3 too for a12 month subscription to Netflix. It's £8.50 p/m for up to 4 devices. And I'm looking out for a decent magazine subscription, there's plenty of offers which will make it quite cheap. But dd will appreciate because she's just moved out so can't afford little luxuries like that

My near 19yr old would love that mermaid blanket she loves little mermaid

DM often combines presents for me and dsis ( we get on very well). She has bought us spa days, theatre tickets, mini holidays - stuff we enjoy but wouldn't ever be organised enough to put together.

Other favourites have been a random hamper (as mentioned by pp) which she filled with anything I might like - book, DVD, perfume, pjs, make up etc.

Last year for our 2 oldest DS's we bought a 1950's American look Record player and some records for our DS17(he's 18 now)bought him some jean paul aftershave,some clothes and trainers,a cinema voucher and a voucher card that he could spend at lots of different stores.

DS19(now 20)we bought a game boy(he wanted one and a decent one with a case took me ages to find)lots of games to go with it,aftershave,clothes and shoes,a restaurant voucher card(that he could use at lots of restaurants)a cinema card and a voucher card the same as his younger brother's.

I d sometimes wonder why I'm tasking my brain about stocking fillers for someone in their mid twenties who earns more than his father. They do really love the tradition though, so I won't be stopping anytime yet. I usually get socks or underwear, art stuff posh chocolate, cooking things a bottle of something nice, music and a couple of books. I'll be doing a stocking for my mother too, she is 90 and still enjoys it just as much as ever.

Oh record players dd bought an actual LP recently she has nothing to play it on .thank you ohtheholidays now where would one buy a record player these days

If your daughter likes Benefit, their little sets (in a box with a mirror) are so nice as they have about five items inside and are beautifully presented.
