Outdoor Christmas lights - How?

I've bought some icicle style lights that run along one waited and then drop down.

I want to hang them along my bay window outside to look like icicles dropping down. I've.got some hooks but do I need nails? How do you do yours?

We thread our outdoor lights through hooks in the front doorframe (which obviously is easy, as the frame is wood). Hooks, I think, are the best option because the lights are less likely to slip off.

do you need to get an electrician to sort out an outdoor plug?! or do you trail the cable inside (no idea about these things!!)

I'm always curious about this too. How do people plug them in?

The wire is very thin so I'm thinking it'll get under the closed window? Guess we'll get some hooks and try it out!

We use cable ties for ours.

When does everyone put theirs up?
