unique gifts for 4 year old boy

Hey I hope you guys can help. There are loads of threads for toys for 4yo but he has been absolutely spoiled in the past and has loads of toys. He plays with only a few and although we will get him a couple I wanted to see if anyone had any unique ideas. Not the normal kind of toys something out of the ordinary?

What kind of things does he like?

Hey JosephineMaynard, he likes football animals role play 😕 books the wii trains mad on trains. However he has football's we will be getting him bigger goals for the garden he has loads of animal figurines dress up stuff over 100 books 2 train sets a duplo one and brio one. Loads of lego board games cars. Etc

How about a subscription to something?

We like ToucanBox in our house. You get craft kits through the post. My girls love getting post and the kits are great. If you buy a subscription you get a little kit to give the child on christmas morning and then something every month. Or you can do a school holiday bundle which delivers a medium box in time for half term and a big box for the main school holidays.

You could also look at something like Little Passports which also involves them getting post.

Something he could make?

You can get kits to make a birdhouse, a train, a piggybank.

Goldfish?
Craft things?
Something he can collect-like lego figures,

A wooden treasure box with treasure in? You can get fools gold, fake gems, a purse pixie and other 'treasures'-all sorts of things like that. (I got mine off eBay)

How about a telescope, periscope or microscope. My DD who is nearly 5 will be getting these for her birthday and Christmas this year.

What about those personalised books 'the boy who lost his name'. Has a story in that's all about finding the letters of his name with animals/characters that begin with the same letters. They're nice because it's more than just putting his name on it. Or you can get santa books about where you live although they're usually based on cities. Can't remember what they are called sorry.

At that age mine loved an explorers kit. We found a mini suitcase and filled it with magnifying glass, bug catching jars, tweezers, some cheap binoculars, mini beast book etc. Over the years he has collected various things to add to it - fossils, geodes and stones, animal skulls, feathers, snake skin, dead beetles, a duck egg (nearly got a hernia blowing that!), scorpion (safely in acrylic). And loads more I love it when he finds something 'special' enough to go in his collection - it's a real treasure.

Would he enjoy Starlight Express? I think that is touring the UK next year.

I'm doing my DD (3) a craft box. I'm going to get a big storage box and fill it with craft supplies and then print off (or i might use a site and get it made into an actual book) craft projects off Pinterest.
We have a few craft bits but they don't have a 'home' and we never really know what to make so a pre planned book of crafts I thought would help us out

So not at all unusual but as he's obsessed with trains have you considered Thomas Tank Engine battery operated track set?? My son and nephew play(ed) with theirs for hours on end!!!! My son is now 11years old and all of his still work!! When his little cousin comes over they build monster tracks all around the house and garden. They have, hands down, been the best toy my son has ever had.

My just 5 year old also has way more toys than he needs. My ideas so far:

• he loves photos so will do another photo album/book for him of the past year
• a story book written for him by you
• a cd player (proper one)
• the cardboard box book
• dressing up outfits
• theatre vouchers

I meant to say ds got usbourne inside trains for his bday and loves it. You can also get thomas manuals.

what about a day out to a railway - there are some where you can actually drive the train (not sure how this works with children). A lot of smaller railways do different events during the year that include a train ride and some do a Thomas the Tank Engine day

Ds is getting a planetarium and binoculars, he loves space.

Some lovely ideas on here. My son is similar age so will be pinching some of these ideas

If he likes Lego and building things have you heard of mobilo? They had it at my son's nursery and he loves it. I've bought him a starter set from Amazon for his birthday and you can add to it with other sets.

Mrsmortis I really like the sound of the craft box you mentioned. Which size did you subscribe to ? My son loves crafts but I always forget to stock up on things so this would make a nice present.

ode we've had the toucan boxes too- the normal sized fortnightly one - and I would recommend them. We stopped our subscription after a few months as had quite a stockpile to get through! Great for taking on holiday etc as it contains all the bits you need to make something.
