I try and make sure they are well stuffed, there is never a set number of presents it usually depends on how big the stuff is that goes in them. Mine are teens and older but there is always a tube of sweets, chocolate coins, some sort of stationery, a book, possibly fluffy socks or novelty boxers. Then I put in earphones or chargers, something fun like racing pugs (this year) or those 216 balls, nano blocks, shower gel and body spray, gloves or a scarf or a novelty t shirt. Mine love their stockings best of all so tend to put in a fair amount but then spend less on tree presents.
I did think the stockings would stop once Father Christmas was no more but the mere suggestion is met with looks of horror.

I don't count, but would guess at between 30-40? They have pillowcase sized sack 'stockings' and they contain a mixture of things they asked for on their letters, aswell as other things I get because I know they will like them.
Haven't bought anything yet (do mine in December) but for example, dd1 (12) will probably have... a cd, lush bar, bath bombs and lip scrubs, shower jelly, perfume, makeup, novelty socks, whittards hot chocolate tub, sharpies or other pens, Smiggle scented rubbers, charm for bracelet, cinema voucher, obligatory satsuma and chocolate coins, named Nutella jar, soft penguin, books.... and whatever else.
Doing their stockings are the best thing about Christmas shopping!
