What are you getting your preteen DD?

DD is nine and wants a Barbie house. She's very into Barbie Fashionista at the minute. I was thinking of getting her a real bow and arrow too, she loves archery

It's a funny old age, she loves Christmas but I'm just waiting for every year to be the one where someone lets slip about Santa!

I wouldn't call 9 a preteen to be honest. That's just....well 9 is a little girl. 11-12 is preteen.

Mine is 8 and she wants a bike and various crafty things.

We're buying DD a TV for her room. She'll be 12 a few days after Christmas. She's also asked for 'happy potter stuff'

Palomb does she actually watch TV? Or is it for Sky or whatver? Mine never goes near the TV only the laptop or phone.

My dd2 is 9 , I wouldn't call her preteen. She'll be getting a TV/DVD player and crafty stuff.. DD12 (preteen) will be having clothes, trainers, books and little bits and bobs. She has TV, xbox, tablet and phone.

I wouldn't call 9 year old pre teen either especially as she still believes in santa. At that age dd was into crafty stuff, Horrid Henry/Diary of a wimpy Kid and Justin bieber!

She's 13 now, want trainers clothes and makeup !

My second daughter will be 9 soon and for Christmas, she's getting a Lego Friends set, Harry Potter stuff, earrings, Sharpies, she's into the Mc2 dolls at the minute. I also have an 11 year old and she's getting clothes, smellies, bath bombs, a bag, sketch pad/pencils - she's more preteeny.

Um... don't just casually "think about getting her a real bow and arrows", please! They are lethal weapons.

Join an archery club, by all means. She can use club equipment until she decides what she wants. It is an expensive hobby, though. DD(10) got a flat bow for her birthday to add to her recurve bow, it was about £80 which makes it the cheapest of the ~10 bows we have in the house. DS made her a set of arrows to go with it, but arrow making or buying is an ongoing thing as they get lost/broken/damaged constantly.

We do have a target in the garden, which the DC (10 and 14) use only with DH supervising and only because they have been well trained in all the safety drills. Your garden also needs to be big enough, and/or you will need a catch net behind the target to field stray arrows.

Actually, can I correct my last post.

Archery can be an expensive hobby. It is if you let my DH loose on it, since he wants all the toys . It doesn't have to be. Juniors can quite happily learn and compete with club equipment, or with a second hand bow if they want one of their own. Most clubs are pretty good at supporting juniors.

User we don't watch a huge amount as a family but she's taken to watching stuff on the bbc iplayer on her phone - junior vets, bake off type stuff. She also likes to watch some films mainly Harry Potter so we're gonna get her a smart TV and she can use catch up services. At the moment we're in discussions about whether we are going to get her a TiVo. Dh is for, I'm against.

I'm now tempted to buy myself a proper bow and arrow!

DD is 8, will be 9 before Christmas. For her Birthday and/ or Christmas, we are looking at:
-Kindle, probably
-new bike
-endless tat she has seen advertised on TV
-clothes
-books (currently heavily into Enid Blyton (gaaah))
-craft stuff; she loves to sew, make pretty much anything, pottery especially

Dd3 is 10 and it hadn't occurred to me that she was a preteen!!

She wants football kit, a scooter, a running watch and other sports related stuff.

Any child or baby 0-12 is a pre teen

My preteen is twelve on January second.

She's asked for a notebook. A links of London bow ring. Adidas superstars and Adidas hoodie and leggings and make up! She also likes Hugo boss woman perfume so was going to get her that too. That will be between her birthday and Xmas.

My dd is 9 and I can see why you say pre teen as this year she has lost interest entirely in toys. She no longer plays with her Lego, playmobil and has stopped obsessing with my little pony. She is obsessed with Minecraft, Harry Potter, Manga, Anime. She likes to draw. She's not into makeup, fashion etc yet so I'd say pre teen.

Various Manga books to add to series she collects (Sailor Moon etc)
A lava lamp (she asked for this)

And her main present will probably be a sewing machine or a keyboard. Haven't decided yet.

I said preteen rather than "child who is still young but who is at the older end of primary" I suppose DD is still very childish compared to the children in her class - she is happy with toys, whereas many of them want phones, tablets , clothes and computer games.

My eldest DD is 9 and the only thing she has asked for is a fitbit. I don't think she would really get any use for it so I'm hoping she will change her mind. She likes photography but complains i always forgot to get things printed for her so I'm getting her a instax camera (like a polaroid, instantly prints). Im also getting her trainers, new horse riding boots, crafty things and some new audio books for when she's finding it difficult to drift off to sleep.
