Gift Each or Family Hamper?

I need opinions please.

I have 7 nieces and nephews, split between 2 families, 4 in one and 3 in the other. They're aged from 10 - 21 and so I've given vouchers for years now as they're never very appreciative of thought out gifts. I now have 4 children of my own (ages 2months-7yrs), and I'd really rather have more money to spend on them and my husband.

I was considering doing family hampers, with nibbles, treats and a film voucher maybe, but I'm nervous as to how this might be received. They're all very brand and money conscious, and I don't know whether to just accept I'll have to keep up the vouchers, or try something new in the hope it gives me a bit more money to spend on my own family.

What do you think? I'm pretty sure whatever I give them is pittance compared to what they get anyway, so I don't know why I'm so concerned!

Oh yeah at that age I'd do a family hamper it's a lovely idea.

Board game and a dvd, bag of popcorn and chocolates, jar of hotchoclate and maybe some fluffy socks.

I would do a family hamper.

Jenga, a DVD, some nice hot chocolate and some fancy popcorn. Like a family evening box.

In our family, once the nieces and nephews hit 18, they weren't bought for anymore. Perhaps start that tradition?

It's unanimous! Any suggestions for games? One family have a 10, 15 and 17yr old, the other a 14, 17, 18 and 21yr old (older but they're a very tight knit family who tend to be treated a lot younger than their years).

I agree, katiegg. I buy for an uncle, his girlfriend and their daughter, but I've not seen them in over a year, have no idea what the daughter is in to, and actually thought she was 11 when infact she's 14, it's been that long! Why do I buy for them?! But then I feel mean and unChristmassy for thinking of not buying.

For games, how about Chicken charades currently £6.99 on Amazon. Was about £5.50 earlier this week, though.

Or 221B Baker Street, a bit like Cluedo, but you get clues at each location instead of just guessing who/what/where. I enjoyed it, as did quite a few people on the bargain thread.

We've had quite a few board games come up this year, so might be worth popping over to see us. We're currently on thread 11b.

B&M do lots of American sweets, for something different, or apparently they will be Lidl's bargain buy on Thursday.

They are great. I am going to buy them now for the kids.

I'm going to steal this idea as have lots of cousins to buy for and find it harder each year when trying to buy individual presents.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to buy the hamper itself (preferably cheap!)

Home Bargains were stocking hamper baskets last year, I expect they will be back soon!

How about pointless, articulate, themed monopoly if they are into particular things (I've seen marvel, game of thrones on amazon) scattergories, cranium, trivial pursuit (can get themes too Eg harry potter)

I would just give a nice gift this year and say you're going to stop gifts for the over 18s after now as you want to spend more on your own kids.
