Which Board Games can you recommend?

Looking for a new Christmas board game for all of us to play over the holidays, but would be good if dd and I could also play it alone. Youngest dd is 9.5 and fairly intelligent. Last year we bought Articulate and Labyrinth which have both been thoroughly enjoyed, I have briefly looked at Dixit so would be good to hear from anyone who's played it. We already have all the 'traditional' games ie: scrabble, clue do, monopoly, Rummikub.

Any thoughts?

Sorry, my Sleeping Kittens should've been Sleeping Queens.

Humidseptember · 17/09/2016 14:48

Ella I am so glad you corrected yourself there, I have got Exlp kittens for xmas and was about to search thinking it was an add on game Smile

I love sleeping queens

EllaHen · 17/09/2016 14:58

Humid - someone earlier posted about Imploding Kittens. Apparently an add-on. I'm resisting because I've already bought enough for the games compendium this year.

Glad to hear Sleeping Queens is good.

All of them. All the games.

Indigo is often overlooked, it's by Ravensburger and it's brilliant - and beautiful. Simple rules but a lot of strategy.

Also Marrakech by Gigamic. Love it.

Oh and for card games Super Tooth is adorable

Nearlyadoctor · 17/09/2016 15:56

That's great everyone, just put a price watch on ccc for Ticket to ride and Dixit.

why is super tooth adorable?

Cagliostro · 17/09/2016 16:58

Very sweet dinosaur pictures, simple game play, so great for kids - but some good strategy in there too. Mind you probably too 'young' for the OP's DC. But it's played a lot in our house. :)

Camel Up is my personal fave from last year.

King of Tokyo.

Exploding Kittens.

Cagliostro · 17/09/2016 19:10

BTW anyone going for Exploding Kittens - there are two versions, one is NSFW! :o

I love Flash Point, that's a great coop game. And Forbidden Desert which is a slightly more involved sequel to the Island one.

Didn't like Dixit personally, it's not game-y enough for me.

imsorryiasked · 25/09/2016 17:17

Neddle must wanted to say thank you for the recommendation of Tuk Tuk Taxi. I got a second hand copy from eBay which we have just played and really enjoyed. Especially car/traffic/road mad DS who's 7.
I've got Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride for Christmas.
And I'm price watching Labyrinth, Forbidden Island and 221b Baker Street Blush

Thequilltosurvive · 05/10/2016 10:42

I'm watching CCC for Ticket to Ride now too. Thanks.

There's a game called 'Auditions' which is a super fun role playing game. Where you pick cards and act out characters/animals/celebs and also do a action alongside it. Honestly it is so good. We played it with the family and kids and we did it for literally hours. I was howling with laughter! i recommend so much. Been a bit of life saver during lockdown- kids love it!
